Beedster Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Folks, I bought an new but unfinished 4/4 body/neck from a German firm in 2015, I built it up and have been gigging it since then and am thinking it's about time I applied a finish. I want to oil not varnish, what's the best bet? Quote
Beedster Posted October 28 Author Posted October 28 I'd quite like to keep it blonde by the way Quote
JPJ Posted October 28 Posted October 28 Most of the oils I’ve used have the effect of darkening the wood (tung oil, tru-oil, gunstock oil), would shellac not be a better option? 1 Quote
Blartfactor10 Posted October 29 Posted October 29 Shellac would give you a nice blonde protective finish, it’s easy to apply with a button rag, dries quickly and is hard wearing, multiple layers giving the best results, I’ve done a few this way and always end up happy with the end product 1 Quote
