Oiling a double bass

Folks, I bought an new but unfinished 4/4 body/neck from a German firm in 2015, I built it up and have been gigging it since then and am thinking it's about time I applied a finish. I want to oil not varnish, what's the best bet?

I'd quite like to keep it blonde by the way

Most of the oils I’ve used have the effect of darkening the wood (tung oil, tru-oil, gunstock oil), would shellac not be a better option?

Shellac would give you a nice blonde protective finish, it’s easy to apply with a button rag, dries quickly and is hard wearing, multiple layers giving the best results, I’ve done a few this way and always end up happy with the end product
