Mike1962 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I want to fit a Fender Jaguar guitar mute on a P bass. Does anybody have experience of doing this? There was a detailed video a couple of years ago on YT but I can't find it now. Does anybody know how deep the hole for the spring and plunger need to be? Everything else I'd fine with. Quote
Hellzero Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Buy a Sean Hurley Custom Shop Fender Precision Bass... 🤔🤪😉 Quote
Mike1962 Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 Why, when I've already got a great bass and a great workshop...😉 Quote
Reggaebass Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I’ve thought about doing that a few times to one of my not so expensive precisions, I’m assuming it’s the one on the Sean Hurley P bass , I’ve got the Bassmute on one which is really good but they are a bit pricey Quote

On a bass it's against the body, therefore the hole would be deeper. Last thing I want to do is either drill through or the spring dig a hole and go through. Quote

Did you see the talkbass thread? There is a comment here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/installing-a-jaguar-mute-on-a-p-bass.1021488/post-25017334 | the plunger requires a 1/2 inch diameter hole, and 36 mm, or about 1 13/32 inches. This is critical, as the Tele Bass body is 1 1/2 inches thick, so one slip and you drill through the body. Seems like they say the pitch goes slightly sharp when you engage? 1 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted October 30 Posted October 30 I’m fairly sure there was a bass at the SWBB with one fitted. Lemme see if I can find out who… Quote
e28m54 Posted 15 minutes ago Posted 15 minutes ago I've had one fitted by a great local tech and its been good, definitely does what you'd expect - takes a bit of fine tuning to get it to work without bending the notes sharp however. Sometimes comes a little loose, its a weird design, but always having a screw driver in the bass bag allows for quick adjustments. Quote
