Someone has raided the dumpsters that we were using to carefully store our newly acquired inventory and made off with lots of stuff". Doesn't Ca have a law in effect that unless property above $950 in value is stolen then the Police won't act on it? If it came from the dumpster then one could argue it was junk and of no value, even IF the Police were willing to do something. Which they won't be as they have far bigger issues on their plates. In the UK however, if the dumpster diver then made a FB post where someone's feelings were hurt... Remember what today's date is and what happened to Guido. 2 Quote

I believe there was a California law proposed that would make the handling of stolen goods over a value of $950 a more serious crime than it currently is and that it allowed prosecutors to get a conviction even if the person had no idea. Not sure that's allowable. Theft under $950 is classed as a misdemeanor as opposed to a felony, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_California_Proposition_47 for more information. I am not a lawyer, I don't live in the USA and if you decide to go shoplifting, steal $951, get caught and end up in court, please do not come back to me Thanks Rob Quote
