This is the classic Stingray EX and it's absolutely gorgeous!

Has some marks and bumps but I am almost certain it is a 90s model. Based on the information I got here. Apparently they started making 3 knobs in the 90s and this is an EX model which has USA parts that was assembled in Japan. 

 

The serial does not show up on the database so I assumed it was an 80s or 70s model. Thank you for the corrections! Reduced the price to £1300 based on the new information.

It comes with flats so you can play CHIC straight away or change to rounds for more aggressive styles.

This is an amazing vintage instrument that doesn't get enough love and should go to someone else!

I could be wrong, but I think the 70s/80s models have 2 band EQs, foam mute bridges, chrome battery covers and 3 or 4 bolt neck plates.

If you put the serial number into the EBMM database, it will tell you when it was made.

EDIT: The 3 band EQ was introduced in the mid 80s... shows what I know!

Nice bass,  but not what you think it is. 
 

Immediately, the battery cover and smaller bridge plate make it after around about 1996 IIRC. 
 

The lack of a ‘Made in San Luis…’ etc. on the back of the head shows it’s a Japanese Stingray EX model, so USA hardware parts on a made in Japan instrument (wood and finish)  IIRC - you’ll have to check that out for sure. 
 

If it’s an EX, serial number won’t show up on the Ernie Ball database.

Yeah, you might be right, how do I edit it and what's the real value? I was sure it's made in USA and it doesn't show up on the database because it's from the 80s.

To edit, look for the the 3 dots on the top right of your first post, then select edit. You can change the title and post, but not the price. 
 

I won’t give my opinion on the price as it can be subjective on some basses and I don’t  want to bias your advert. You may want to try the what’s it worth thread as you’re a paid up member here. But I’d suggest you look at sites like BassBros and do a Stingray EX search, then maybe deduct a bit of dealer tax but definitely consider the cosmetic differences. 
 

BTW - if the neck was USA, it’d be 1990 or after, the truss rod wheel, non-skunk stripe, and oil finish are quick signs - but the lack of a ‘Made in…’ decal suggests it’s an EX.

I had one of these EX Japanese assembled basses and I can tell you 

THEY ARE PHENOMENAL 

I stupidly traded mine but would gladly go for one again. Unfortunately 3 kids and mortgage prevent that at the moment 😂

Correct. Taking the neck off a Stingray EX will normally reveal the production date of neck and body. Both are normally marked.

 

EBMM supplied batches of U.S. parts for the Japanese fabricators to use. Typically, the dates of key changes of the U.S. models were reflected on the EX models, but a little later until parts stock was used up. From the pics I would estimate this model to have been put together around 1999 - 2000. 

 

I agree that the Stingray EX are great instruments.....every bit as good as the U.S. models and normally a bit lighter too.

And yet this bass is still, as of today, being sold on eBay with the misleading description of it almost certainly being a 70s or 80s model based on hardware. 🤨

I would say, based on condition and the prices at Bass Bros, the second hand value of this is closer to £900 - £1000.
