I've been meaning to try one of those new Standards - the ceramic pickup is apparently very good in these. What was the build quality like?

I didn't examine it too closely, but it seemed to be good... the neck was very comfortable and fret work was spot on.

Squier Sonic P is a good shout. I have a a Sunburst one, and the neck is lovely. I would also look at the Harley Benton MV4-P as that as a Jazz spec neck. Its a hell of a lot of bass for £200 and they have it in some nice colours! I have the PJ and I love it.

Here's mine

The seller for my neck no longer has any for sale.

I suspect they may be made by a Fender/Squier manufacturer in China and one or two of them disappear out the back door.

But these look like the exact same ones https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?item=177280017838&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l170197&_ssn=ningbohante20231205

What sort of fretboard radius does yours have? Vintage or modern?

from looking at it I think it's more of a modern radius . There was no radius quoted in the original add.

I have owned/own Fender Professional MK 1 P bass, a Sandberg  VM4, a Japanese Squier P (40 mm neck), a Sire V5  and an Indonesia Squier P Bass Bass Special.

They are all very good!!

And then I bought a cheap Fender Power Jazz Bass Special.

The neck on this is Fantastic!!

22 frets, 62 profile jazz neck, P body with bigger cut aways at the horns.  PJ so all the tones you need.

It's now my go to bass.
This will do whatever you need and be a pleasure to play.  There was a great one on eBay or Reverb recently for £700 ish.

If SH is an option, Charvel San Dimas Pro Mod basses have a lovely "jazz bass on ozempic" neck. Some people experienced some noise from the electronics and made a lot of noise about it. I've had a couple, one-early, one later and neither had any noise issues. As a second-hand buy, I think they are excellent value.
