Ibanez - Premium or SR600?

I think my SR400 is in need of some serious attention. It's 20+ years old.

So I got to thinking £400 over 20 years is less than 40p a week! Maybe a new bass rather than swapping out the jack and preamp and probably the frets are worn as well.

I haven't tried either of the SR600E or the Premium. The Premium is double the price but maybe the SR600E with swapped out Gotoh machineheads (The ibanez ones get a bad press amd I've broken 2!) would suit my needs.

Anyone experience of either or both?

I heard some clips of one of the Premiums with Nordstrand Big Singles in. Sounded so good I really wanted one, but I don't like open pore necks.

I love those Big Singles. I had an SR1605 and when I first played it at a gig, where I was plainly digging in a bit more, I initially wondered where the glorious, raunchy sound was coming from and it took a little while to realise it was me. It was a really nice bass but, at the time, I found the body a bit small for me. Nowadays, with my playing more short scales, it wouldn’t be an issue at all, although I still don’t like the gold hardware.

Loves an Ibby SR... Fave Bass

Early SR600 with the Mk1 Barts - Reverse P Soapbars

Current SR600 with Mk2 Barts - Humbuckers

Presume your SR400 is PowerSpans or the Arch-Top Curved Humbuckers?

If you have a 'pre-prob' maybe try em Passive... or... My Modded SR300

Let's have some frets pics - see how worn they look?
