It's actually Indonesia. Also all import Dingwalls are shipped to Canada for QC and setup before going out to stores.

Just like the Lakland Skylines IIRC. Excited to get mine. Since seeing the metallic black, I'm having 2nd thoughts with the white  one on my way, maybe I can still ask BassDirect if I can still change

So are the Bass Direct prices the actuall prices, or just a pre-order estimate?

 

....I dunno about paying more than £1,950 (for the 5) as even that feels slightly over-priced given that it is about £200 more than the D-Roc 5, and what is there on the SP1 that costs more than the D-Roc to produce given that the D-Roc has 3x pickups, metal flake or colourshift paint? (I'd probably get a D-Roc other than the fact I've seen them weigh up to 10lbs/4.5kg, nobody needs that kind of backache in this day and age!).

 

Compared to other multiscale basses ,the SP1 5 at £1,950 is £250 more than the most expensive new Ibanez EHB (or about £900 more than the basic ones) and £250 more than the Spector NS Dimension. Saying that though, some more real-life weight measures are available now from USA shops for the 4 strings, they tend to be about 8.2lbs (so roughly 3.7kg) so I'm guessing the 5 strings will be slightly under 4kg (which is my self-imposed weight limit).  I reckon I'll get one but £1,950 is my spending limit.

But wanted to try something new and It's my first Dingwall so I don't know what to expect aside from what the forums praise them for. Just waiting for new updates from Bassdirect.

Also, I'm on the same boat as you, for any bass I'm keen to get, 4kg below is my limit. More than that, I'd think twice. My heaviest bass was a Lakland Skyline which was 5kgs. Never going back again with such hefty bass!

I'm looking forward to the SP1s though! I like a traditional precision body and the touch of Dingwall is realy something!

Yeah, I bet the SP1 will be great. I've  been in contact with Bass Direct to get a part-exchange price for my current Bass and they've offered a fair price so I reckon I'll go for it once they have some in stock to try.

My old SuperP5 was under 4kg and the smaller/thinner body was a deliberate move to reduce weight by Dingwall
 

The DBird is a nice bass but try before you buy. I had one briefly buy didnt get on with the body shape even though it was well balanced, a reasonable weight etc. 

 

I still feel the SP1 would be a really great bass.

First outing with a metal band in drop A, next week is a pop rock covers band.

 

Nothing I can complain about - sounded huge.

A bit off topic, but just for my education - why drop A? Do you use the low A or is it more for helping with certain chord/open string stuff across all strings?

The songs we are playing are in Drop A on guitar (some are F#, where I use a detuner pedal), so for simplicity I just do the same - means I can get the low note in to match the guitar. My other band will be standard tuning.
