lapolpora Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 (edited) For sale is my Musicman 25th Anniversary 4 string bass with dual humbuckers. It’s in excellent condition with just a few very minor wear marks in the usual playing areas. Ash body with mahogany tone block, quilted maple top in Venetian redburst, cream binding, maple neck with satin finish, rosewood fretboard, matching headstock. Frets are in excellent condition and have been finished flawlessly. The preamp and pickup switching options give this bass a huge palette of tones. Neck is a C shape with a 41mm compensated nut. Weight is 4.4kg and the bass comes in its original Musicman 25th Anniversary case, with cleaning cloth and warranty card. Collection preferred from my home in South London, but can post at cost. Thanks for looking. Please ask if you have any questions. Last price drop before going to Bass Direct. Now £1800. 25th_bass_controls_hh.pdf Edited November 20 by lapolpora Withdrawn 24
dutchwife Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Stunning! Gorgeous! Lots of other words for a bass I want so badly. GLWTS! 1
TheGreek Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Isn't this the Reflex model? I played one at the LBGS and was very impressed. Nolonger in production IIRC. Expect this to fly... 3
snorkie635 Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 "Oofya, oofya!" and many other such disconcerting, involuntary exclamations of immense approval emanating currently and floating around my house. GLWTS 1 1 2

The preamp on this gets massive very quickly! I’ve attached a PDF in the post showing all the pickup switching options.
eneade Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 The Reflex and the 25th anniversary were quite similar. The Reflex has been in production for a few years after the 25th Anniversary, which was made in 2009. The Reflex had the same wood, with the mahogany insert, but the maple top was plain and the bass was painted solid colors. 3

I've got a 4HH Reflex that's basically the same as this just painted a solid colour and it's a very very good-sounding bass. These models were essentially a hybrid of elements of various EBMM basses put together to create a unique design with an equally unique tone. It's a Bongo preamp, and if I recall correctly the pickups are ceramic like the Sterling but wound on Stingray bobbins. That combination along with the pickup switching, active/passive control and mahogany tone block give these basses their own sound, and it's really powerful. The rear pickup is in the Stingray position and can do a really good facsimile of that sound, by the way, as well as a lot more besides. Always a good option to have.😊 Edited May 12, 2023 by Misdee 1 2

Thanks for sharing this info. Worth mentioning that it’s an 18v preamp requiring 2 batteries. I’ve seen Reflex models with a single 9v. I share your opinions on its sounds and pickup options. My favourite is coil 2&3 in “jazz bass” mode. Just lovely ☺️

Just lovely ☺️ My favourite option too, especially in passive mode! My Reflex is 18v, but I love using it passive, especially as the tone control works really well and has a very useful graduated taper. They must have got capacitor values just right. What's for certain is that there likely won't be any more of these basses. And if a Stingray is now £3000, what would a bass like this cost? GLWTS. 1
petecarlton Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 That's got to be the prettiest "Stingray" I've ever seen! Have a bump - and GLWTS! 1
Killerfridge Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 Wow, that is absolutely stunning, I can't imagine what would bring you to part with it! 1

I wish I didn’t need to. I’ve had to go private on some medical treatment for my daughter, that isn’t covered on the NHS. So need to raise some funds 😔 3
Zeta89 Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Hi all, I got the same bass but PCB board/pot was failure (Seems oxidization) , so many noise now. I need to change my pre-amp, and the PCB board, any suggestion on it?
chuck_stones Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Oh wow, that's a stunner! What's the nut width on that? - feel like I need to add that as my profile tag. 1

I got a replacement pickup via the repair shop that sorted and installed it for me. Though I believe it is quite difficult to get spare parts out of Musicman, it is possible. Contact the Musicman distributor in your area first and ask their advice.

It’s currently at The Bass Gallery in Camden, who are selling it on commission for me. They measure the nut width at 41mm and bridge spacing at 19mm. The neck is slimmer than a regular Stingray. Not quite Jazz bass, but heading that way. It’s a comfortable neck to play. Here’s the link for the bass at The Gallery: https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/music-man-4
chuck_stones Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 It's an absolute beauty, but sadly a bit out of my price range! Best of luck with the sale, I'm sure it won't be around for long! 1

Fraserwill Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Wow that's lovely and very unusual. Wow I just followed the link that's a hefty commission! Can you still sell this privately now or does it have to be via BG?

Fraserwill Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 Ok thanks. Maybe I'll try to swing by BG and try it out. Saves you some hassle. I do need to try as I've never seen one of these. I currently have a sterling hh.

Huge sound and incredibly hot output from the massive humbuckers and 18v preamp. It's a room shaker if you go overboard on the bass boost! Edited October 16, 2024 by lapolpora
