ISP Technologies - Bass Vector Active Cabinets

Hey everyone!

Well... coffee in hand, I enjoy a quick mid morning surf to satisfy my geeky techno bass passion. As some may know, I'm fascinated by progression in the design and concepts of bass gear, so it filled me with a certain amount of nerdy joy to stumble over yet another company excercising it's marketing forearm with a foray into the active cabinet market.

Well, it seems they have been doing it for a lot longer than other companies.. lol.. maybe I just hadn't spotted them! Seems they haven't had a mention on BC yet.. so here goes!

ISP Technologies are offering a number of active bass, PA and guitar cabinet solutions that seem to me (at least with the Bass and PA department) like a really good idea.

Exhibit A:

A point of interest, the almost 'world famous' Tom Bowlus (Hi Tom!) wrote a review for Guitar World that also appears on the site:

Anyone who has read Tom's blog will know that he has a massive amount of experience with gear..and writes a damn good review! - I'd love to spend a day in his garage!

I was also pretty excited to see a range of PA gear, including active cabinets

Not suggesting that the 'head and passive cabinet' bass combination will ever be superceded, but with modelling and digital technologies being discussed on the board more often, I wonder what future technology will hold for us as musicians.

I remember when those came out quite a few years back but sadly I've never heard of anyone buying one! Apparently their preamp is good too. Only issue with the cab is its shape and weight - it's so loud you'll never need two, so it would make more sense to have it taller and slimmer (and turning it on its side won't work well because of the dual mids), whilst the weight is totally justifiable considering the 8x10" beating output but still on the high side compared to the current trend.

[quote name='alexclaber' post='475393' date='Apr 29 2009, 07:31 PM']How about one surrounded by a number of large cardboard boxes artfully painted to look like an imposing rig of Doom?

Nah, would squash when you lay your bass on top, put your hood up and stand facing your amp with arms raised.

Nah, even double-walled corrogated cardboard can support a bass or two, let alone triple-walled. Just no stage diving from the faux rig, but that isn't doom is it?

Being punched into the rig is doom, jumping off isn't. Not sure the feedback would be the same on top of card either. Anyway, I prefer the midrange sweetness of double walled, triple walled is a bit clinical sounding.

Also, this is Doom:

the filter caps seem massively underwhelming compared to the rest of the amp... :)

still, that looks like the sort of amp that runs on diesel and can be used to pull stumps. *approves*

to add something on topic, i liked a lot of the ISP stuff when i first saw it a few years back -- sadly i think they just don't have the marketing and distribution power, or something.
