Skybone Posted February 22, 2023 Share Posted February 22, 2023 My son's had an Alesis Nitro Mesh kit for a while, and is becoming quite a good drummer. He's recently started meeting up with a guitarist at the rehearsal rooms that the band I'm in use. He's loving it. They have an acoustic kit, and you can use their cymbals and hardware as well. Unfortunately, he's now discovering the difference between an electric kit and an acoustic kit, especially the damage that they do to sticks. He's also talking about getting cymbals and a double bass drum pedal. Does anyone have any recommendations for places that sell drum gear? There’s specialists like Drummersonly, Graham Russell and Drumshop. Then there’s some great buy and sell groups on Facebook. Take your pick. If he’s knackering sticks on a proper kit in a way he doesn’t on an electric, it suggests to me he’s got an issue with his technique. Skybone Posted February 25, 2023 Author Share Posted February 25, 2023 Thanks, I know all the usual suspects do drum gear as well as guitar/bass/studio/etc. stuff, was more curious about recommendations for the more specialist drum shops. To be fair, there probably are technique issues, which only he can work out for himself on a full acoustic kit (as I'm sure we've all done on our respective instruments). He only had a few pairs of sticks, and they have been well used on the electronic kit, and so may not last too well when you introduce proper cymbal edges. For used gear like the drum pedal we have found Gumtree to be very good. We got my wife a very nice boxed DW 5000 for a very good price which we can't remember. It was as new. Cymbals is more a face to face thing or ear to face thing. Lots of bargains to be had from classified adds though. Matt P Posted March 3, 2023 Share Posted March 3, 2023 not a drummer myself but both my best friends (who are also my bandmates) are drummers, we are very lucky to have the drum shop only a few miles from us, they've always been helpful and the range is very good, they have secondhand gear available and the service and advice when in the shop has been second to none. on one occasion they were very patient whilst my mate James spent 45 minutes going through every cowbell they had (including identical ones from the same manufacturer) to find the one that sounded right. there have been a couple of other trips to try out snare drums which were longer but both successful shopping experiences. in the last couple of months there was also a trip to buy the first kit for a friends son, they were excellent (he is on the autistic spectrum) and they did a great deal with low volume cymbals and threw in some damping pads for free. https://www.drumshop.co.uk/ Matt 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I second him. I bought my wife's Yamaha Stage custom kit from him. razze06 Posted March 22, 2023 Share Posted March 22, 2023 I'm a mediocre drummer and i've been getting advice and kit (sticks and a kick drum pedal) from DrumCentral in Edinburgh.
