Because of the body shape (dont really know much about the subject) but other people say its real it needed a bit of cleaning but has come up ok! Similar in many ways to the MIA Jazz Plus, which was made 1989-1994 - I have a 1992 J+V so yours looked familiar immediately. Nice colour, and IIRC the pickups are a balanced set so you get a nice uniform tone/volume out of them when using one or the other rather than both blended together.
