TrevorR Posted Thursday at 15:31 Posted Thursday at 15:31 (edited) Speaking of Superlight TTs… this popped into the inbox today… Super chuffed as it was listed originally for delivery by the end of April, so gaining a few months on it is great news. As a new build, ordered last September, I’m a little intrigued to see whether it will have the solid paulownia body or the newer maple core with paulownia wings design that they announced over the summer. Not worried either way but it adds an additional little element of surprise into the anticipation. Can’t wait to give it a run out a church on Sunday evening and at the weekly jam on Monday. Watch this space… Edited Thursday at 15:33 by TrevorR 5 Quote
TrevorR Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Well, it’s here… came home this lunch time and discovered that they’d delivered it early - fortunately they’d stashed it behind our bins - not taken it back to the depot. Phew. I have to say that I love it. It looks and sounds great and, of course, the feel of the neck is wonderful. It’s the all-paulownia version but none the worse for that. The sound is in just the Jazz territory that I like with bounce and spring in all the right frequency ranges. Lovely. I’ll be using it at church tomorrow evening and then again at the Weekly Monday Jam on Monday so I will report back on the sound… but I do not expect to be disappointed. Oh yeah… and the number you all want to know… 2.8kg / 6.2lbs which is daft but it still feels great on a suede backed leather strap. No neck dive discernible at all. Love it so far! pineweasel Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Very nice. You may not have the new body construction, but you do have the new bridge, the first one I’ve seen in the wild. Quote

I so very nearly pulled the trigger on that one - or it’s close clone - last year but decided not to as it duplicates the pickups on the VM I got last year. I was really looking for a TT SL for that Jazz look and feel. That said, the VM is a great pickup combination - both sound great individually and the blend sounds are lovely too. Do give us your in depth review when you’ve had a chance to properly put it through its paces… Apologies, I’ve only just spotted this, clearly my inbox has a better slap technique than I do. It’s been a bit of a journey with the VM SL. It’s quite different from my TT SL, which is no bad thing, but if I’m honest, I was still preferring the TT for a while. That said, the TT now has a John East preamp fitted, which has made it noticeably warmer and more vintage-sounding, in a very “ah yes, that’ll do nicely” sort of way. I've since swapped the preamp in the VM for a Sadowsky I had lying around, mainly out of curiosity rather than dissatisfaction with the Glockenklang. The Glock was perfectly good, I just can’t seem to leave well alone. I do prefer the Sadowsky overall though, especially having the passive tone control available while in active mode, which is a really handy touch. I also picked up a Sandberg P passive VS recently. I really like the Sandberg Delano-style pickup in that, so it got me thinking about the P pickup in the VM. I’ve since fitted a Tonerider and now an Aguilar AG4P into the VM and I’m really loving the P tone a lot more now in that bass, it’s got the punch and character I was after. The MM pickup still underwhelms me slightly, so I may well grab an Aguilar MM at some point to match the P and complete the set. Because apparently I enjoy turning basses into ongoing research projects Playability on the VM is impeccable, as you’d expect, and it’s ridiculously light too, around 6.4 lbs I think. You almost have to check it’s still on the strap. Also i now have 4 Sandbergs...how did that happen! Edited 2 hours ago by Raslee 1 Quote
