"THAT" Chris Wolstenholme Sound

OK, I know it's probably not possible to emulate with a single pedal (or rig, for that matter), but what ONE pedal would get reasonably close to CW's sound?

This isn't for a Muse tribute or anything like that. It's just a little project where that sound - or something close-ish - would be ideal. And I'm on a very limited budget at the moment.

In a nutshell, I need something with variable filth/grit but no loss of bottom end. In fact a little low end boost would be wonderful.

My 'go to' drive & clean pedal is the EBS Billy Sheehan Deluxe pedal. The beauty of this one is that it has two effects loops on it too and a compressor. You can say add octave and chorus on the clean side but have just envelope filter on the distortion side, then mix it all together for one big sound going in to a fat EQ section. That'd be my suggestion anyway!

I like the sound of that - could be what I'm looking for. Thank you!

No problem! :) I prefer the Deluxe version out of the two available models, it has a gain boost foot switch for extra sizzle should you need it part way through a song.

I use a variant on this:

With a quite scooped fuzz. Its close enough... I wouldn't be at all surprised if while he's tap dancing on stage, his bass tech runs the big muff into a sansamp and gives the FOH bod a DI, and leaves it at that... :D
