funkgod Posted December 14, 2016 Share Posted December 14, 2016 (edited) Hi geek i got a strat from china, just to try, see att cost about £50. had import and handling to pay about £35 all in all for the money.....eeeerrrr... its playable ! paint job...............bad, all orange peel effect pickups.................weak but work, but the humbucker is good tuners................... bagger than a tent in a storm, rubbish neck..................... great to play, i like it body..................... i think is laminated, very light frets, ....................verygood, can get low action once set up fret edges............ very good neck lacquer........... good neck wood construction...very good decals..................... very good Fen$£ stamped parts..... very good, except tuners dotts on neck................. out of place body routing................... bit rough. tuning with trem used...... crap tuning trem locked...........ok nut....................................junk soft plastic bridge............................... very good knobs............................... very cheap sound, .............................not bad have used it on some tracks. the humbucker kick ass my thoughts... looks nice, but would not fool a player who knows about strats. change the pickups might help and might be good enough to take out to the dodgy gigs you would not want to take your £1k pluss strat. But ....... i think your cash is better off buying a real fender Squire, its far better made, my squire strat is far better in every way. sammybee Posted December 15, 2016 Share Posted December 15, 2016 Squier make a pink 3/4 fender suitable for a 7 yo (I have one for my daughter) and its great. It only cost £90 new from Gear4Music. DorsetBlue Posted December 15, 2016 Share Posted December 15, 2016 Well you could be sneaky. Buy the Squire or Encore (or Thomann) guitar, check it over to ensure it is fine and then take it apart. Then reveal parts to daughter and put it back together again, making improvements (cavity screening etc) as you go. You then have known quality parts but still have the custom built feel.
