I've had a look on eBay - there's a sweet short-scale Epiphone EBO on there - I reckon this would do her...any other names/models worth looking for? Gotta be cheapish - £125 tops maybe. The bridges are poor making action adjustment very hit and miss but for a starter they aren't too bad, mine's playable. Sounded OK, but I hated playing it as the strings were so loose ( presuambly a problem on all short scalers ). Easily inside your budget. I changed the bridge to a 4 saddle job in order to achieve correct intonation and that required modifications to both the bridge and the bass. Certainly easy to play and a surprisingly high output from the guitar pickup they put in there. Loved it so much that I'm upgrading mine - it's a keeper.
