Those all look like parallel setups to me?

Black = Cold

Both pickups are always on with that setup, is that what you want?

A 3 position selector switch would be nice IMHO. Like the one on the Tony Franklin fretless.

[/quote]Thanks, yes that is what i am after.

I have heard that series wiring will give me a fatter sound but what i would like to know is how will the resulting sound differ from the sound of the p pickup soloed?
Will i have more highs than when i solo the p pickup due to the j pickup also being permanently on or will all the pickups being in series further reduce the highs due to the two coils of the p pickup plus the single coil of the j pickup all being in series ?

All pickups in series would give you a louder, darker sound than parallel; I assume it would also be louder and darker than the solo P but not sure...

Sounds like you haven't heard a series PJ in action even though you want a setup with it wired permanently in this configuration. Perhaps switchable series/parallel wouldn't be such a bad idea after all!

If you happen to have a store nearby that has an American Standard Jaguar Bass you can try out (e.g. Wunjos), that has series/parallel switching so you can at least see if it's for you.
