Using my Hartke LH500 with full range speakers

After buying some cheap and nasty monitors that we cant hear , my band have decided to revisit the monitor situation. Was about to order some active Alto truesonics and then I had an idea. I use a Hartke LH500 and like it that much I have a spare exactly the same.
Could I run a signal out of the monitor sends on our mixer into the spare LH500 and then into a pair of passive PA speakers for monitors (obviously they would be ohm and watt compatible)
Wasn't sure if a bass amp could do this. We only put vox through PA.

If it's feasible would it be better to run signal into main input of the amp or into the fx return?
Thanks in advance

Just a suggestion, but do you have the means to run an aggressive high pass filter or any EQ on the monitor feed coming from the desk?

It won't magically transform your cheap monitors, but if you can clean the lows out of the signal they are getting they will work more efficiently and not be contributing to mushiness in the sound on stage which should help them cut through much better without running out of headroom so quickly. Might also be worth trying the rumble filters on the mic inputs at the desk (assuming your desk has them and you are not already using them).

If you can borrow a 15/31 band graphic or decent parametric EQ to experiment with at rehearsal, you might be suprised at the results - lots of powered monitors have built in EQ in a basic format, but it is not really up to the job.

You say 'some' passive monitors. So that's not the ones that don't do the job? What are they by the way?

What do you want your monitors to do? Are they just for the singer(s) or do you need them for the whole band to hear. I've been using little personal monitors recently and find them excellent for helping you pitch your voice.

And yes, you can use the Hartke to drive the speakers but the only way of knowing what they sound like will be to try them. Use the FX return if there is one.
