Ok wondrous fount of all knowledge (yes, you basschatters)

My 20 year old nephew is putting together his own band, mainly rock type covers but a couple of bluesy originals, and is aiming to be gigging in the general Maidenhead/Reading area this summer. What sort of rates should he be asking?

Cheers.

Pubs seem to pay around the £250 mark ... at least ours do in Oxfordshire. Sometimes a bit cheaper, sometimes but not very often, a bit more

Yep, £250 is around the mark for where we are based in North Oxfordshire too. Whenever we've gigged nearer Berkshire it's been about the same.

We gigged the Reindeer last month, and will be at the Dolphin next month ( sort of close to Banbury )

But yep, thats a ballpark rate but there may be variations , depending

If they're just starting out I think they'd do well to ask for £250 but settle for less.

Just to get their foot in the door a bit. Once they've got more gigs in the diary they'll look a lot more attractive to venues and they should hold out for £250.

But really they'll get paid whatever they think they're worth. If they get offered £150 and they choose to play then that's how much they're worth.

The Dolphin at Middleton Cheney? I know it well.

We played at The Reindeer on Saturday (one of my two locals), we're back at The Swan in April.

Which band are you?

Rates? In Reading? Bwahaha. Most places we try and play operate a discreet pay-to-play.

I have a mate who plays drums in a covers band...they have an extensive amount of tunes that they can draw on, maybe 175 songs. It's really not a case of throwing something together; these guys are at top of their game, they work VERY hard at it.

That seems right. Your pub players get about half of what we get for bar gigs in the States. However, we play 4 hours as opposed to your 2.
