I found a guitar tech in York who was willing to do the job. [url="https://www.facebook.com/yorkguitardoctor"]www.facebook.com/yorkguitardoctor[/url] Normally I'm OK with doing the mods myself, but the electronics cavity needed some tidying up anyway and I didn't want to break anything. It's a Marleaux 3 band pre-amp and normally not found in anything other than their own instruments - with no wiring diagram to go on I was in over my head! Stephen did a great job and I'm really chuffed. I'll get some better pics in the daytime but this is the best I can do for now. If you're in the York area and looking for a tech I can highly recommend!! ped Posted March 1, 2016 Author Share Posted March 1, 2016 For some reason I just don't like stacked knobs which could reduce the number. I don't like the feel of them, or the height. Then there's the two buttons (not knobs) which are essential for the VB99 and an active/passive switch that I did look at hiding round the back or side but it wasn't really workable. My pet hate, is mini-switches. They just look cheap, to me. Though, all but one of my basses, has them. I do like the new series IV basses too but perhaps they sound a little bit too modern for my tastes. I normally play in the studio doing recordings as I don't have a live band to gig with since moving to York. I'd like to get back into that but actually I enjoy the studio side more - too many bad gigs I suppose! Saying that I haven't done any studio work for a couple of years either, instead playing along with backing tracks and music at home (I have a simple studio setup here with the VB99 and Garageband) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I don't mind a mini switch but agree there must be a neater option, such as a slider switch on the side (recessed) or even one on the back of the bass. As mentioned earlier a pull push pot would be a neat solution but having one knob raised above the others doesn't fit well with my OCD!! [/quote] Me too - love simple basses too... but my main instrument has to be a 'swiss army knife'. I like the Big Al. I'd like to try one. Can't help think it would be better with a more fitting headstock though.
