Hi,
Has anyone had any experience of these Basses . I believe they are designed in UK , and made in China .
Bass Direct sell them , and have very good demos on their web site .
Make a nice companion for my Lakland and Jazz !

I will shortly be working with a Rolling Stones Tribute band , and thought that this Bass would do the job ( semi , short scale , green burst etc etc ) .
I know mr Wyman used a lot of Framus Semi basses ( including one he took the frets out of ) but at the price they are going for , and the baseball bat neck on them , makes me think I should be looking for an alternative .
I recon when the project gets going , I`ll get one of these Chowny Basses .
Pete

Hi Pete, ended up with a Hofner Club CTE in cherry red - it looks gorgeous, plays great and, if the shop-window that Macca looked in had been displaying one of these instead of the violin shape, would now be a legend! Seem to remember BW with a similar looking Framus at one time.

Hastily grabbed pic doesn't really capture the excellence of that cherry-red finish.

Looks fab ( excuse the beatles pun ) !
When I worked in the Music shop not far from where I live , we had the Tobacco Sunburst one of these , did not look half as nice as yours .
Where is it made , and what does the bottom E sound like ( I have always felt short scale basses lack a little on the bottom E ) ?
By the way, keep your eye on the hippo , looks like he might take a bite !

I haven't tried the Hofner so can't comment on that, but if I was after a semi I'd have the Chowny in a heartbeat. They really are terrific instruments, comfortable and easy to play and the range of tones available is quite astounding. The blueburst is beautiful.

Pete, got Jessica hippo in the shot as she was included in the deal - honest! My wife loves 'em and had already seen and named this one at GC Music & Collectables in Taunton)! Did the Hofner + hippo trade for my Ebony SG re-issue with Glen. As the man said while we were shaking hands on it, "I've never done a deal with a hippo before" (hope it wasn't me he was talking about).

Rich - couldn't agree more mate, just my personal preference plus the sad fact that the SG wasn't selling on the forum.

Sorry Pete, didn't answer your questions. Not sure where the Contemporary Club is made except that I know it's not Germany (I think the top-of-the-range model from The Fatherland costs around £1200) and I presume it's not China either, as that's where the cheapie Ignition version comes from. To my ears the bottom E sounds more than tight enough with the OE rounds still fitted, although that distinctive short-scale thud is still there.

Thanks scrumpymike,
As someone has said earlier in the forum, some of the Fenders are made in China , quality aint too bad now . As the project with the Stones Tribute gets nearer the gigging state , I will have to make a decision.......................unless " the boss " gets me one for Christmas ! ! ! ! ! ! !
