Woodinblack Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 I would really like to try out a G&L M2500, or if the neck isn't much different a L2500. They look like the sort of thing I would like, but the neck could be too big. The only specs give the width at the nut, which seems quite a bit, but obviously it depends on how thin the neck is (and they don't really look thin). I know the L2000 has a massive neck compared to a M2000, but the L&M 2500s seem to be the same size. Anyway, out here in yeovil I know none exist, but I do occasionally go into London and I am near basingstoke this weekend. It has a slimmer neck than my L2500, I do not like big necks and it feels very comfortable. That said, you have Ibbies so most necks will feel a little chunky in comparison perhaps. Very flexible bass, great feel, great tone..... An L2500 in a suit, a bit more polite. Compared to the several Stingrays HH and HS 5-ers I owned I prefere the neck and tone of the M2500. [/quote] Not sure I like the sound of polite, I like a bit of a dirty sound for quite a lot of the stuff I am doing at the moment (covers mostly, tend to be a bit cleaner for my stuff). I had thought about thomann, then it is just the cost of postage both ways, but at least you can try it on your own equipment. Small shop though, I'd phone first! For what its worth, I can definitely recommend an M-series (I have an M2000 Tribute). [/quote] Presumably you're talking about G&L Tribute basses, where you have no say over the neck and the L neck is like a baseball bat sawn in half compared to the M neck (which I believe is the same as the USA #12 neck - 1 5/8" nut, 12" radius). USA G&Ls have a choice of necks - for 4 strings. They only do one 5 string neck, curiously. So that would back up what you're saying about the L/M2500 necks seeming to be the same size. I think Mansons in Exeter are G&L dealers too (a lot closer to Yeovil), I am sure I saw some in there a fortnight ago - worth a look at their website/or a phonecall? [/quote] Yes, tributes. From the specs on the G&L site, the neck of the L 4 string is the same size as that on the M/L 5 strings. [/quote] I got it, I meant that an M2500 isn't the no holds barred monster the L2500 is, but it will still bite you b@llocks off. A little easier to use in multiple band settings.
