Hall and PA Hire Costs

Anyone got any experience of booking halls and PA's - looking at putting some stuff on locally and am looking at a 170 capacity hall. Wouldn't expect to get anywhere near capacity with local acts but got to get started locally. Also PA size for that size venue, and what sort of price for both hall and PA.

Cheers,
Mike

Rough prices around here - hall will range from free to £200 (some places happy with enough punters for a decent bar take, or will give you it free if you buy a buffet from them!).
PA costs vary wildly - but about £100 for a basic vocal PA to about £150-£250 for a proper set up with someone to operate it. Might even get lights included.

That's what we pay around Glasgow anyway.

Depends on the hall...... I'd be thinking about £150 for the hall and £250 for the P.A.
It also depends how much of a P.A you really want, so that can be a variable.
If you were banking on 100 ppl, then a decent vocal P.A would do.

Village halls aren't normally the best halls for music... by a long shot.
Too many hard surfaces typically...

Yep, although the ones with asbestos walls are usually quite good acoustically! This isn't a village hall, hopefully will see it next week.

I'd generally agree for practices, but for a gig with a (hopefully) capacity audience they can be fine (and cheap).
