3below
How do I get towards this bass tone (Bernard Edwards influenced). My Barefaced Dubster will deliver serious quantities of bass. Any thoughts gratefully used. Edited May 12, 2013 by 3below
marcus bell
Maybe start with a stingray?
Dingus
Just had a quick listen with my headphones on . Sounds like a fairly generic modern five string with roundwound strings and a pretty deep tone . What kind of bass or basses do you have ? I have just had a quick playalong with with a Music Man bass I have to hand at my desk and with both humbuckers on in series mode it cops that kind of tone with no problem . Very groovy track with a great progression to play about with and take some liberties with . I will have to investigate this group in more detail . E sharp
That was my first thought - 5 string Stingray
3below
Thanks, I will get the 5 stringer on it - Warwick Rockbass but fretless and fitted with pre-amp. I have most of my basses on TI flats. Failing that the G&L SB1 will be pressed into service.

tonyf
We're doing it in our soul/funk function band. Fantastic tune, such a great groove and loads of space to improvise. I've been using my octaver on the B at the seventh fret on the E string. Marvellous fun. It gives it an organic bass tone but the octaver and a bit of envelope filter adds a bit of synth bass grove. plumbob
Here's a very talented young man playing everything , a great cover version !!! Looks like a Yamaha bass but the sound is synth or a combination of the two http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6NDY8FSr9M
3below
Many thanks for these from an aging and less talented bass player. Some practice on my part is in order.
