SOLD

Now for sale only.

Bought a few weeks ago from Ashwood1985, mainly because I had always lusted after a thumb but had never played one before and the price was very keen. However, even though this does exactly what it says on the tin, and it does it's "thumb" thing to perfection, it's just not the bass for me I realise. I am glad to have got this thumb obsession out of my system though.

It's a German-made 2006 Warwick Thumb bass, bolt-on 4 string. Plays exactly like a thumb should. Sits beautifully in a band mix. Action is lean and low. Neck is straight and lovely. It's a real player. No major dings whatsoever, but a few minimal scuffs and bumps as is consistent with a bass of this age. Still, as a whole, it stll looks like a bass in really nice condition. Some minimal fretwear but these bronze Warwick frets seem to last almost forever. Has recently had new pots and output jack. All electronics work faultlessly.
The nut width is a smidge under 38mm. The neck itself is chunkier in the hand (front to back) than a Jazz neck (I love the neck actually). Feels nothing whatsoever like a P neck ! I have a preference for J necks and I find this thumb very comfy to play.
Body and neck are of Ovangkol. Fretboard is Wenge. Looks and feels like a high quality bass, which is exactly what it is !

However, has a thumb "indent" above the neck pickup exactly where your thumb sits. I'm guessing, simply worn by a previous owner. In use it is invisible, as your thumb sits there ! Also has a scratch on the truss rod cover and the paint on the knobs shows some wear. All of this is clearly seen in the pictures, and is reflected in the price. If you are bothered about such things a new Warwick truss rod cover and the proper knobs from Warwick would set you back about £45 posted from Germany.
Unlike some thumbs, this one sits nicely on a strap, and does not neckdive at all on me. I can wear it high or low and it still seems to hang nicely. Weight is not excessive. My bathroom scales put it at 4kg, although I cannot vouch for the absolute accuracy of this as they are only, after all, cheap bathroom scales. Doesn't strike me as a particularly heavy bass though.
Currently strung with a brand new set of nickel roundwounds 105-45.

£660 posted to you within mainland UK. I'm happy to courier abroad, please contact me for costs, but from previous experience it'll be about an extra £20 to post to the EU. Sorry, trade option now gone.

OK, here's the pics

That is a great price for a great bass. Mine is a '98 model and I think there are a few slight variations. However, I'm guessing they are very similar. I really like the feel of the neck on a thumb. Not as slim and thin as a Jazz, but my next favourite neck easily! I find the neck wood is naturally not sticky and real easy to get around.

How did you find this compared with the streamer $$? The streamer neck on the $$ was way chunkier. Is there a Warwick out there for you?

You're right the neck is slimmer than the Streamer. I'd say this thumb has possibly the nicest neck I have ever played. If only it had a P pickup !!!! There's just "something" about these German Warwicks that keeps me coming back to flirt with them.
I can't seem to get away from my love affair with the Precision pickup though. Maybe a P/J LX4 might be up my street ? Although, to be honest, I am so happy with my G&L SB-2 (which I have now got used to the thin neck on) that I can't see myself changing for a while.

I think you'd like the Warwick corvette hot rod with its P style pickups then! Superb neck and very light (body has a hollow tone chamber). Go on try another Warwick!!! ;-) I happen to have one, but don't think I could ever sell it.

Oh Alan, Alan, Alan...

What are you trying to do to me? lol

I manage to keep discipline and leave it up for sale till it goes (which I failed miserably at before) and then you put it in arms reach of me again. You're a tease Sir!!

All jokes aside, I'll state first hand that his is an astounding example of the thumb bo that wil take anything you throw at it and still punch every note out solid as a rock

If I had the spare cash I'd be buying it back! Word!

Ha! Very good salesmanship squire!

Believe it or not: I survived my near 28 years without one! Seen too many people get themselves in a hole!

Being a thumb owner I really can vouch for this bass. Construction and feel is superb. Also a lovely lovely tone. Many people don't get to try these German basses these days as the price new is crazy. So at this price it really is an amazing deal.
