Mark Bass Traveler 102p - Tweeter

Hello peeps,

I've just purchased the traveller 102p cab after a year of saving to use at smaller venues. First impressions was its nice aesthetics and how light it was (which is a bonus!). I took it down to the practise room to test it on my own. I was surprised at how loud this cab is for the size of it! Although not as heavy low end as its big brother the std 104hf it still has a really nice and controlled low end.

Now my only issue with it is the tweeter. It sounds considerably noisier (hissy) than the104hf, I don't know if this is common with the 102p model , or rear ported cabs in general, or its a dodgy tweeter? Even with out a bass plugged in and the tweeter level set at zero it can be heard.

Anyone have any similar experience with them? Or general thoughts on this?!


PS: This noise can be cancelled out by either turning the tweeter right up near maximum (sounds wrong by all accounts, but it works! ) or by adjusting the VLE past 9 o'clock on my LM3.

the P is piezo tweeter, the H is horn tweeter. The P ones are alot noisier. I have owned both the cabs you mention, and it is par for the course.

Thanks for the reply notts. Its not over bearingly loud, but noticeable to me , and it can be dialled out, so its no big issue.

I can confirm my old 102p was the same. They are just very hissy tweeters!

Thank Christ it's not just me! I love my 210 and in all fairness the tweeter isn't at all that loud, I can hear it when there is no other sound other wise it's absolutely fine.

Good to hear you like the cab! And yes, they are deceptively loud! I used mine at the main hall in the cluny in Newcastle and it was more than loud enough for monitoring.

Try playing with the tweeter on playing a 12 or 8 string bass. It sure isn't quiet then. It's hideous. After loads of evenings which involved unumberable head/brick wall interfaces trying to EQ it out without losing all cut and bite, I just turned the damned things off.

I'll give you that. To be honest, I struggle with 4 strings at the best of times!

Down the practise room on friday I ran the 102p with the LM3 in conjunction with the STD 104HF linked to my Carvin B2000. I put a jack between the LM3's tuner out and the Carvin's instrument input and ran a speaker lead from the lm3 to the 102p and a speaker lead from the 104HF to the Carvin. All i can say is I got thunderous results!!! Far, far more power than i'll ever need but running both at a lower volume gave a sense of great unison. The Carvin's rocky edge and LM3's warm rich depth really complimented each other. its a lot of gear to cart around to a gig situation but it is quite a unique sounding tone that i'd be interested to incorporating at some point!!!

I had 2 102P's and there was no tweeter hiss apart from when I used an Akai multiband compressor (which was far quieter through other amps).
I had no problems with other pre's/ pedals or with the actives on my Sandbergs.

Never had a hissy fit from mine with the piezo level just left on 12 o'clock....!
