Aaah, the good old days....

Just an observation, any chance the porn section could revert back to how it used to be? You know, individual member posts of new acquisitions, collections etc. rather than these TalkBass-esque threads where everyone just chucks their collections in a general bucket? Next thing we'll be copying and starting Rickenbacker/Spector/Thunderbird clubs and everyone will start having their own number.

Sure I like looking at basses, but maybe I'm just a bit old school, to be honest I liked it more when Wayne posted photos of his checkered Frankenstein models or when Gary would just throw up photos of his collection of 1,700+ Spectors and everyone just went 'Wooooooo'.

Cheers
P

The porn section is one of those I hardly ever check out.... because there is some real sh*t porn out there. How does replacing a pickguard on a stock bass make it porn? I'm just as "grumpy old man" with the build diary section too, where screwing a few components together somehow constitutes a build. <_<

I can admire/appreciate it when someone creates something out of some planks of wood, perhaps to a lesser degree when someone screws together some parts (I'm as guilty as the next guy on this count), but the whole 'My Shuker/ACG build' thing rubs me the wrong way.

I have nothing against these luthiers, they do fine work, but surely anyone with a few bob to spare can get someone to build something for them, but the poster isn't the one getting splinters.

You could be right Mike. I'm in one of my moods today (lot of pain) maybe I should pretend my internet is like my o2 sim card and switch it off today. :D

Couldn't agree more. The build diary section should indeed be spilt in two. One for self builds and one for pro builds. Both would be equally as interesting but for fundamentally different reasons.

And maybe a third section for minimal mods (my new pickguard, I screwed this neck to this body etc) which I'd most likely not subscribe to. :D

nah it's where they blend that's interesting. I like seeing experts do stuff and I love the post i found on talk bass from a guy in india who had no experience and went and bought all this fancy woods and seemed to be making a good job of it.
I'ld love to do my own build some time when I have the space and a bit of money for basic tools. (the one thing I would be nervous about is cutting the fret slots) the thing that will encourage me is them all in together. To be honest I would rather the builders ACG, Shuker or whoever stuck up the posts rather than the 'look what someones making for me' threads.

And yes. Your fender jazz now has a black guard rather than white. and however many sycophants say how great it is... the buggers still going to sound the same!

Here's the thread I was referring to above. Haven't reread it yet, so if there's anything flying around, I apologise.

  • 2 weeks later...

I sometimes get the feeling that some of the prolific traders use this area to create a little hype over an item shortly before selling it too. I mean post a bog standard Fender, 4 or 5 guys come on and say "that's awesome" etc. owner agrees then lo and behold it's on the market again before you can blink. Is this a bad thing?... it's not evil I suppose, just a bit rum.
