Two that spring to mind... * Played some very rough pub on the outskirts of Glasgow on the night of an "old firm" game (where Glasgow Celtic play Glasgow Rangers - go figure). I knew we where in trouble when I was in the door about 3 seconds and some drunk guy the size of an industrial unit came up to me and said, "what team do ya support..... and you'd better give me the right answer!!" * Played a working mens club with our rock covers band. Sort of place with loads of those "Next week Rosemary and Shane" posters on the wall. We started playing and everybody got up and started ballroom dancing... to Pinball Wizard IIRC. skankdelvar Posted December 5, 2008 Share Posted December 5, 2008 (edited) Family Fun Day for a merchant bank at Kempton Park Racecourse. Doing Pub R&B (Feelgoods etc). Instant mis-match, but it was £400. We went on between the bloke with his bongos and the pre-pubescent girly dancers. Eric Knowles from Antiques Roadshow was in the front row, grooving, and the bloke Melvyn Hayes from "It ain't half hot mum" was effing and blinding through a charity auction, the carousels were going round, our gtrst was rowing with the organisers and I was fully lagered. Tengu Posted December 6, 2008 Share Posted December 6, 2008 My old band played Fort Nelson on top of Portsdown Hill a few years back. It was a Navy Field Gunners' reunion and they had stuck a couple of marquees to one side of the courtyard. We set up right in the middle, out in the open where they usually practised. For power one of the navy guys ran a single cable from a 15 amp socket in the main building. We ran our entire rig, backline and lights off that single cable. Field gunners are a difficult audience and tend to sit at the bar with their backs to the band. You might just as well not be there. On this occasion they decided to practice their bugle calls while we played. The guitarist and I turned to the drummer, cranked our amps up full and then thrashed the rest of the set. I'm pretty sure the matlots didn't even notice. More recently we played a Relay for Life gig, in the open at one end of the running track. Fortunately we took loads of plastic sheeting because it pissed with rain for the three hours before we started playing. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
