Playing it as they do in F its a right old stretch on the left hand if you want no hand movement (which is always my own aim). Technique is relevant but not all-important to me, the violin style left hand (with thumb over the top) was driven out of me by my classical guitar teacher who whacked it with a ruler if it ever came over. Put me in good stead for my first Precision which had a much fatter neck than I was expecting. Entwhistle is describes as 'sloppy' in another thread because of this. I wonder if the person has been on so many world tours or ever back Sam & Dave? [/quote] OK, I know this is not bass playing, but Hendrix was a leftie (played left handed) and a load of the stuff he played couldn't be done without using his thumb over the top. Try playing some of Robert Johnsons licks, even in G or D tuning, without using your thumb on your left hand. Personally, I don't really care what's right or wrong as long as it grooves, sounds good and fits the song (sez me who would definitely fail Grade 1 if I was examined.)
