The Dark Lord Posted April 7, 2012 Share Posted April 7, 2012 Hi - do any of you guys play using backing tracks? I played in a three piece - bass, guitar and drums .... and then the drummer quit. But we carried on with a drum machine ..... and then created our own custom drum backing tracks. It actually works rather well and has opened up a few smaller (but still as lucrative) venues. Does anyone know of a foot controller which can be used to cue up backing tracks from an iphone / ipod / ipad? We presently attach an iPod to one of our mic stands and cue manually. It would be nice if we could do it by foot pedal which would be a bit more discreet. I ordered one of [url="http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cable-Remote-Control-for-iPhone-iPod-Nano-Touch-Classic-/310619509888"]these[/url] a week ago, figuring it should be a fairly straightforward job to rewire it to a basic momentary footswitch. I say 'should be' as I have a habit of lashing up straightforward jobs like this. So I ordered another, just in case. I'll let you know how I get on. We're thinking of doing some live stuff, but currently everything that's not guitar and bass and singing is done by a Pc running FL Studio (formerly frooty loops) - ideally we'd also be able to run midi out to a POD for guitar effect changes (i'm fully analogue dahlink), so we were considering a raspberry pi built into a practice amp with a basic linux sequencer... bbrich Posted July 1, 2013 Share Posted July 1, 2013 Yes, same here MIDI. Been using it for twenty years or more, with live drummers and without. Just get rid of the really cheesy instruments and BVs. Keep it simple but don't forget to put your System Exclusive resets at the start AND the end of every file. Get an effects pedal that supports MIDI and you can wander about the stage as well without having to "dip your toe" at the right point.
