if the 3-bolt neck wasn't introduced on the Jazz until 1974?

I can't say anything of its vintage or authenticity, but last time I went into Richtone that thing was in its open case on the floor by the door, and I very nearly (and quite literally) put my foot in it! In hindsight it'd have been an expensive faux pas, but still an act of mercy...

The stock may carry a 72 SN, but probably not fitted to the body till some time later. It wasn't uncommon.

Normally I'd agree, but the odd thing here is that the serial number is on the back of the three bolt neck plate, which Fender weren't making in 1972. But it I a 72 SN. So puzzling, but I suspect just a quirk in the serial number used - Fender Serial Numbers are notoriously inconsistent.
