hi,
decided to try some homerecording - long story short - got M-Audio Firewire 410 interface of my friend, now to connect it to my pc I need firewire card. There's quite a lot of them on ebay with price range from £3 to £55. Which one would be good for me - not asking about certain model but if you can suggest something would be great.
Thanks
Kris

I bought a firewire card years ago for downloading miniDV video for editing. I bought the cheapest I could find and it has been working fine ever since - for my camcorder, external firewire hard drives and my multi-channel audio interface.

Firewire is a standard so all such cards should do the same basic thing. They also all use the same basic interface chips. Besides, how much risk is there in buying a £3 card? ;)

If the £3 card has a TI or VIA chip then great - go for it.. You can find cheap cards with these chipsets and I know from experiece I can software monitor with a round trip of 4 -5 ms using either of these cards. Whereas a Ricoh chipset won't even continuosly stream without dropouts - again IME

Anything based on a TI (Texas Instruments) chipset is preferable - VIA will do at a push... These are the only 2 worth considering for audio, as far as I know.

Don't buy VIA - only TI will work with many FW interfaces.
