Bass into a Mac..

Shouldn't make any difference to the overall volume or quality - you're just sending the signal to the same place but via a slightly different route.

The only real difference could be that the firewire interface is slightly faster than the USB socket, so a miniscule (and pretty un-noticeable) time lag if you're not using USB 2.0.

Says it all in the description. Can you tell the difference?

They are completely different. The first is a greatly cleaner signal, unless you added some effects or noise or something with the Alesis.

Are you serious that you can't hear a difference?

My hearing is pretty bad in my left ear & the top end has gone in my right. Too much loud music & grew up in very noisy environments.

No effects on the Alesis, just set flat. So if that's the case, sack buying an interface - you get a good clear signal through the line in on an iMac! :)
