Ideally I would like it to be adjustable tempo wise without changing the pitch. Do I need a sampler / sequencer or something else? drum trigger? If you can get the drummer to play to a click a sequencer cab do the job through i.e. logic, pro tools.. but garage band would work. If it's just one song a sampler would work, but the drummer should really play to a click or at least need to have headphones (in-ears to make sure, he/she stays in time). Technically: Sampler into a mini mixer and then the drummer can take a headphone out and the main out from mixer goes to the PA.. If it was me, I'd get a keyboard player to play the whole track or get them to record it onto a sequencer to the same set up as the sampler for wiring. Skol303 Posted February 7, 2011 Share Posted February 7, 2011 You can't achieve EXACTLY what you're looking for using a piece of software called 'ReCycle' - here's a link for more info: [url="http://www.propellerheads.se/products/recycle/"]http://www.propellerheads.se/products/recycle/[/url] ReCycle is an 'industry standard' for sampling loops - it allows the user to change the tempo of a loop with affecting its pitch (and vice-versa). I use it all the time; it's a brilliant piece of 'ware. Only downside is that it comes at a price - around £150, though you might find it cheaper on eBay. You might also be able to do the same more cheaply (or for free) using software like Reaper - but I can't advise on that, as I don't use it myself. Best of luck! The one I have (Jam-man stereo) allows for tap tempo changes on the fly (if the sample is pre-recorded), and you can send a feed with click to the drummer. Software-wise I would think that Ableton live is the one that is built for this kind of thing, but I haven't tried it. If it's only for one song I'd seriously consider a rearrangement. For instance if a guitarist could cover it or keys as mentioned above? Or how does the song sound without the sample? I know the Hillsongs band has the luxury of a bajillion musicians (ok maybe a million ), but it would be difficult to cover with a smaller band. To get up and running with loops can take a lot of money and effort, so I wouldn't want to do it unless I was making a habit out of it. Good luck though, it does sound class. A wee bit hypnotic until the rest of the band kicks in. Edit: You might need an extra control pedal for the jamman to do on the fly tempo changes, but it definitely can do it. My bad ;-) I'm not sure, but I think I have a copy of Ableton on a few magazine cover discs too... probably limited to 'save disabled' or whatever, but still. I guess it's more likely to be found as a freebie than ReCycle: though I still stick by ReCycle as being the 'daddy' of working with loops and samples. Albeton does it with minimal fuss.Any DAW reading Acid or Apple loops will do it. Any Audio editor that has transient slicing will do it. A few of the guys on this site like using Audacity [[b]which is free[/b]] being that it is an Audio editor i am sure you Can do it in that. Go and check it out. [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSALHq4eIPE"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSALHq4eIPE[/url] Recycle is also good but involes going out the DAW then back into the DAW and having to bounce the tracks twice but with flex you can do it all within the DAW . Theres a few different algorithms to choose from just pick the one that sounds best to your ears. Also most with most DAW you can now time strech by holding command and draging the end of the audio track longer or shorter. If you have choosen the right algorithm for the job and your not slowing it down by to much it shouldnt effect the quilty too much.
