2004 LE Stingray

Selling this for a friend as he told me to put it on here to see what the haps are. This is what he says;

'Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4

This is a mint condition Musicman Stingray 4 string bass. It was purchased in 2004 for £1750 in California. This is the special 2004 model, not many were made and it is in a beautiful and rare colour scheme.

The bass plays brilliantly and has a wonderful tone that only a Musicman Stingray can produce - perfect for deep grooves or funk slap bass. There are 4 knobs which control volume and 3-band EQ. It is finished in Autumn Red (a very rare and desirable colour), with a rosewood neck.

The guitar comes with the original hard shell case, plectrums, 1/4" instrument cable and polish cloth.

I'm selling this guitar with great regret, as I have another 5 string stingray which I now use exclusively and have no need for this bass. I'm also a bit stuck for cash!

Price of the guitar is £1200 but offers will be considered - don't be afraid to offer whatever you think is fair, everything will be given consideration. I need to get rid of this thing fast! I would also consider a trade for a Warwick streamer jazzman or something pretty special!'

At first I thought I misread the asking price, I needed a double take... If you want to have a very good idea of the market value of that instrument, do a search here on basschat and on ebay UK. For a broader perspective also check talkbass.com and ebay USA, take the price in Dollars and take 10% off for the market value in Pounds (a quick and dirty method that is not actually much off the mark...)

I have no vested interest in this instrument, I am not interested at all, but having had a couple of Stingrays (and still having one) it is just a suggestion in order to avoid delusion.

The aftermarket prices of Ray's has fallen in recent times (probably due to the introduction of the excellent Sterling line) and therefore its more than likely that you'd be looking at around half the asking. If you are hoping to get around £1700 it might be best to hold onto the bass a bit and see if the market picks up in a few years.

Not commenting on the price of this one as I will only get in trouble Looks a nice bass though if a few clams were to be removed, And Im not sure how well known the 2004 LE is and for that money you can get a 30th LE at the moment.
