Exactly. At the time, the Precision was a massive move from Double Bass. I lke the whole vibe and tone of a Double Bass (although Ive never really tried playing) but bringing the bass into a guitar format made it much more versatile, easier to transport, and pretty damn cool. So yes, frets = more precise, therefore Precision. Stick a new set of SS strings on a Precision, whack the tone up full, and its VERY precise-sounding!
