2. I have a 2009 model 4 string American deluxe jazz and it's fantastic. This pans between the 2 pups and the tones are to die for - typical Fender and a great sound can be found that is appropriate for any mix. No passive function just 18v active but that suits the sound i'm after - a sort of hi-fi version of the classic Fender tones. No issues with unwanted noise whatsoever, the noiseless pups really are! The quality is superb, it's lightweight and has a smaller body than a standard jazz so it doesn't look ridiculous on me (being a bit of a shortarse). The neck just feels right in my (small) hands - again quality all the way. Gripes? Yes, there are 2. The pre-amp isn't as powerful as i'd like. By that I mean that the change in tone when you roll on/off the bass, mid and treble is subtle rather than shall we say overpowering - compare this with my TRB5PII which is 9v and the difference is very perceptable with the TRB being very capable of shaking the ground with the bass is rolled on or slicing your head off with the treble. Having said that, all the tones sit very well in the mix with the jazz whereas I have to be careful with the TRB that I don't overdo it. 2nd gripe is the access/positioning of the 2 x 9v batteries. A little black plastic coverplate on the rear that is removed with 2 screws, then you have to really fiddle around to get the batteries slotted into a very tight space is not good for a bass costing well in excess of £1000 when new. The TRB's battery can be changed in seconds as can the battery in my Stingray. Much more profesional looking than that of the jazz. I've considered fitting a John East preamp to 'improve' things but i've not been able to do an A-B test with another bass with one fitted to see if the difference would be worth it and can find nothing on You Tube or Johns website. Heard good things about them though. Anyone out there made this modification? All in all thgough a terrific bass that I use most of the time now. The TRB gets used maining when I need the low B string and the stingray when i'm after 'that' tone.
 3. Maybe of interest to someone on here? I'm in no way connected to the seller (just like looking at Musicman basses on ebay to see what comes up! Sad I know but I bet i'm not the only one!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Musicman-Stingray-Bass-HH-Status-Graphite-Neck-/320789309400?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ab08867d8
 4. Thanks for all the advice guys. Looks like I really need to check out a Stingray HH to get closest to what i'm looking for.
 5.
The 25th HSS is a very nice and versatile bass, I loved mine. To be honest with all the pickup combinations at your disposal you'd find it hard to get a bad sound out f it, both in passive or active mode.Try every pickup solo and it's like having lots of basses in one instrument. My only negative point on the 25th was its weight, mine was 10.8lbs which you'd feel it when you'd be playing a long set standing up, which is a shame because playing it in a sitting position was a real pleasure.
Thanks for this. My existing 4 string basses (jazz deluxe & stingray 4H) are very light and well balanced and are a real pleasure to play on a long set (especially the Jazz). My main bass for a few years before I got hold of these 2 was a Yamaha TRB5PII which is heavy by comparison. Beautiful bass though with a tone to die for and the build quality is rock solid. This bass by necessity should only be used with a good quality wide strap and that really helps the weight to disappear - in fact you feel the weight more when taking it off and putting it on its stand. I suppose what i'm trying to say is that it's all about compromise and making the bass work for you. If weight is the only negative factor then it's something I can put up with. That said - none of us are getting any younger....
 6.
Have to say they are a pretty amazing bass. If you get the chance try the HH too before you buy. I never spent much time on the neck PU. However others love it, just worth checking them both out if you can
Hi Swanbrook - thanks for the advice - much appreciated I must admit i've not had a chance to try an HH but i've always fancied the flexibility that either the HSS or an HH seem to offer. I currently own a Stingray 4H and a Fender Jazz American Deluxe. I'm always torn between which one to take with me on a gig as I love the sounds that both give. One bass to do both would be my ideal.
 7. Arrrrrrrrgggggggg!!!!!!! Want one sooooooo bad! http://bassemporium.com/blog/?cat=7
 8. I can vouch for Hutton as being a top bloke who really knows his stuff. Whoever buys this stunning bass will not be disappointed. Best of luck with the sale.
 9. Hi all, i've just sold a Fender Precision to Hutton and I have no hesitation in stating that I could not have hoped for a more pleasant transaction. I have found him to be 100% honest and he delivers on his promises. The communication has been everything that you could hope for with timely, clear messages being received both through basschat and over the phone He is also a really nice genuine guy. If any of you find yourself dealing with Hutton in the future, please be assured that you are dealing with a true gent. Thanks Hutton and good luck for the future. Andy.

 12.
If you dig Jazz necks, you should better consider a Sterling to a Stingray. I'm not sure but I think the nut size is more jazz like on Sterlings than on SR's. Anyway good luck with the sale.
Cheers Larrytron. I've never had the chance to try a Sterling but I believe the body is smaller than the Stingray and the neck is more like a Jazz so that would probably suit me. I also believe that they do a Stingray with a thinner neck (SLO)?
 13.
Yep, Can't go wrong with this. The more recent Am Std's are very good indeed. Good price too. Good luck, LC
Thanks LC. You're dead right - the build quality of this bass is second to none. Fender have really got their act together these days.
 14.
My goodness, thats loverly. Think I need another P-bass
Hello Highfox, thanks for your kind words.

 16. ***** Sold - thanks for all the interest ***** Hi all, up for sale is my 2010 USA Fender Precision bass with OHSC. The bass is like new apart from 2 very small marks on the underside of the neck at the 3rd fret which i've tried to show in one of the photos. These do not interfere with the playing experience at all. No other dings or scratches anywhere. Reason for sale is that i've come to realise that i'm more suited to a Jazz style neck - i'm just not bonding with the precision which is a shame because it's a beautiful instrument. Great tone. lightweight and fantastic build quality. Not really looking for trades as I have three other basses (which according to the domestic authority is already 2 too many) although I could be tempted with a EBMM Stingray 4HH or maybe a Sterling. I'm looking for £750.
 17. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Lots here that i'd never really considered. I feel some in-depth research is on order.
 18. Folks, sorry about the topic title looking for some help. I currently own 3 basses (jazz, precision and stingray - JPS). I play in a covers band and each of these basses sits in nicely with the band. Each one has its own individual tone (the jazz has a great all round sound, the Stingray adds some bite and has a great slap tone and the precision adds depth. Which bass I take to each rehersal/gig however depends upon my mood at the time. It would be nice to be able to get all three tones throughout the couse of a gig with just one bass. I'm not taking all three basses out with me as:

I can't be arsed lugging 3 basses around and
i'd look a bit of a tw@ changing basses through a set to get the 'right' tone
So I was thinking, is there a bass out there that can give me all three tones that I can tweak to suit i.e. a JPS bass? The material the band plays ranges from Vampire Weekend to Red Hot Chilli Peppers along with all sorts inbetween (Green Day, Stereophonics, Muse, Killers, Jam). I would like a 'traditional' looking bass - nothing pointy. Doing a bit of research, a stingray 4HH seems to fit the bill, but i've not yet had the opportunity to try one. Are there any 4HH players out there that can tell me if one of these basses would provide the solution? I've tried a couple of Sandbergs which have really nice necks but don't quite hit the spot (for me) as far as the tone is concerned. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Andy
 19.
Good choice and I agree wholeheartedly, these new American Standard Precision and Jazz basses are superb instruments, the tone, the playability and the feel of the neck is awesome, I was so impressed by them I've had to get both of them.
Stunning! Some basses just look right. Nuff said!
 20. I never really got precisions. I've been playing for 32 years and had never really felt the need to pick one up let alone play one. I grew up in the era where everybody played them. I guess I just wanted to be different. I currently own a Jazz Deluxe, a Stingray and a Yamaha TRB5PII. Then it happened. 3-4 months ago I got a real GAS for a Precision. Don't know why, it may be an age thing. Anyway, tried a few out and was completly blown away with the new American Standards. The tone, the looks and yes, even the build quality of the new ones is right up there. Maybe that was the reason why everyone was using them, they just work. So, can't justify buying one (i've enough with my current collection) but I really do 'NEED' one. It arrives tomorrow - sunburst with a maple board
 21. Just replaced the pickguard on my American Jazz Deluxe from the original off white to tort. Now (IMO) it looks as good as it plays Thoughts?
