Hi all - info on a great and v funky warehouse party in Nottingham, on Saturday 28/3/15

Secret Soul Club will create a modern twist on the Underground Disco feel of the loft parties of 70s NYC and the warehouse parties of 80s London to recreate Nottingham’s own underground disco at The Warehouse in Sneinton.

For tickets contact me (Bassnut62) on this very Basschat forum or contact Ben of Secret Soul Club on 07706 980648 or visit Rock’n’Roll Bikes on Carlton Road. Sorry, no; but I did look at some demos of the Neutrino and thought it does sound v nice. From what I remember I think the N will do the standard Mu sound v well; but the TruTron has a truly impressive array of different filter sounds available, especially when you drive it with the Pre Gain rather than the Mu or filter drive. The various ranges and Passes that you can select on the TT are nice, especially the MIx pass.

I got the new TruTron and Octave Divider a couple of weeks ago and finally had chance for a few fiddles with them on guitar. These are the updated versions of the original MusiTronics MuTron and Octave Divider. Our bass player got them too. Here's what I reckon on guitar:

The Tru Tron is sweeter than any of the other filters I've tried over the years. There are plenty of paramaters to adjust, but not too many, so you can go from extreme squelch, though distorted filter mayhem to mellow funkiness with ease. The sound seems to remain present in the mix with a few simple twiddles of controls which don't take long to learn. I particularly like how much sustain there is on the filtered notes. Most filters seem to close and die too quickly for my liking.

The Octave Divider is as glorious as ever and now in a smaller case and it behaves very well on guitar. The Green Ringer gives an essential edge to the sound that helps distinguish that this is definitely a guitar not a bass.
Here's what our bass player says about the TruTron on bass:

Yes! the TruTron3x is f***in better than a Mutron III fact! Much more balanced between the up or down sweep parameter without having to change gain level at all. Loads more peak and synthy sound or as I now like to call it the chew or Chewbacca. Plus it goes crazy when you slam in the drive oh and it's blendable. Ugh!
Mistakes are great! Apparently Miles Davis used to say "If I play a bum note, I play it again....everyone thinks I meant it. Then I play it a third time and everyone thinks I'm a goddam mutherf***in genius!"
Is this the Elbow who defy all logic and are popular? Utter drivel - every last note.
I have to agree...maudlin and totally boring crud in my book...kind of like Coldplay in Slippers to me. Sorry! Each to their own, of course.

www.discoprophets.co.uk will be performing at The Approach, Friar Lane, Nottingham, NG1 on stage from 10pm, two sets, free entry. If you want to see a top line Disco band play live with three lead singers and plenty of vocal harmonies, nows your chance to come down and dance your socks off. We play disco and funk inspired dance-floor classics from late 70s to present day. Be there or be square!!

I really do remember a girlfriend in the 80s being v impressed with my hands! I told her then that dating a bass player had many advantages!!
To me, the Meters are the ultimate funk band - just sublime. The album that that track opens, Rejeuvination, is excellent. Here's one from the following album, Fire on the Bayou - brilliant laid back funk, and introducing a bit of synth:
Love Slip Upon Ya is a killer tune from that LP too.... V important to get the technique working for you too, especially with I Wish. I reckon that song would be unplayable without good strong technique and all four fingers on left hand and two on right hand in full effect.
-
If you're already learning Chic songs and I Wish by Stevie Wonder after only a year playing with too little time between time with kids, then you must be doing pretty well. I Wish is a tough song to play; but maybe you said it with learning songs the whole way through. Have you learnt the bridges and short break down section in I Wish and do you have the stamina and accuracy to play the song the whole way through as tight as it needs to be to really groove?
Roger that! I used to play Just Kissed My Baby from the Rejuvination LP in a funk band many years ago. Killer funk and great use of space.
I haven't read through this thread but I'm assuming the previous 41 posts is everyone saying their current rig is the best they have ever heard?
Ooh, you cynic! though in my case, the answer is yes; but I haven't used it for a few years now, as playing guitar these days and anyway I don't have the cab any more.
-
Fender Bassman 135 with batching Bassman 2x15 cab, which I had to reinforce on all joints and baffles to back to get it sounding super tight and fartfree. With only a lead and a 1979 MusicMan Stingray Bass. I still have all, but the cab as I couldn't move it any longer.

Ha! Looks like we all have 'Burman amplifier' saved as followed searches on evilbay. I would love to hear that rig, as have only played guitar through Burman guitar amps. Does anyone know just how good they are for bass and can you describe what makes them so special in the low department? I would be interested to know if bassists love them for the same sort of reasons as guitarists.

What are you listening to right now?
Bassnut62 replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
I'm trying not to listen to Emmerdale; that's why I'm on BC. -
Hey Blue, I like the way you treated those fans....that's very classy to buy them a round. We're always civil and friendly and interested to chat with anyone interested in what we're doing.

There's a pretty cool sounding octave divider called a Vivider that's a close copy of the old Mu OD; but to me it sounds a bit thinner, harsher and less lush and warm than the Mu. I've only heard the comparison on your Tube tho. If you're interested in the TruTron too a good comparison is with the Neutrino by Keeley. I've only heard a comparison on You Tube, but it does sound v convincing. However I suspect the TruTron has a lot more extreme sounds and options than the Keeley; that may be fair tho. All just my opinion of course!
Psh, in the guitar section. I want your opinions on these with bass!
No worries, our bass player has pulled trigger on a brace of these too! I will suggest he feedsback on them on BC too, in bass section.
The LP could mayb3e be up for grabs for a trade etc:) As is the SG which is on this forum.
Hmmmm....pls tell me more about that LPJ and what interests you for trade
-
Wow - I am only at 6 guitars and 4 basses and 4 or 5 amps; but feel I need to adopt the 1 in 1 out policy soon. An LP Jnr does get my juices flowing though!
-
Of the people here that are playing covers of this - are any of you playing it without keys (or horns)?
Yes, no horns in our band....just two keyboards/one player and guitar, bass and drums. Keys and crunch/chorus guitar cover the horn parts.

I really want a P90 guitar one day and admire your 1 in 1 out policy....I need that too
