1. Morning all,

I've got a Yamaha SBV that simply isn't getting played enough. I bought it earlier this year as I used to have one which I adored but this one just isn't the same.

It has been modified to have an EMG-BQC preamp in it, my question is, since this is a relatively rare bass would I be better off restoring it to it's original set up (minus the battery compartment) for selling and then sell the preamp separately?

    Ta!

I didn't know they were playing London tomorrow, assume it's sold out?

If you're on Facebook look for the Event for the Vulfpeck gig, seems to be a few people selling last minute on the Glasgow one so you might be able to pick up a ticket.

  3. I'm being slightly vague here.

For the majority, what comes to mind when you think of Retrovibe?

The reason I ask is because the well loved Chowny have give YouTuber Davie504 his own signature model called the EVO "Retrovibe" http://www.notreble.com/buzz/2017/09/02/chowny-bass-announces-the-evo-davie504-signature-bass/

    All well and good.

    BUT

There is the already established Retrovibe brand that makes a bass that is exactly the same (albeit with a different headstock and pickguard) also called the EVO http://www.retrovibe.co.uk/

Now I could have missed something here and Chowny could have bought Retrovibe but it just seems a weird coincidence that two small UK brands have a model with the same name.

There's no substitute for the real thing...

SB14 has been discontinued, lack of sales. No 5 string version of that one was ever made AFAIK.

There's one of these for sale on Facebook Bass Players Market UK: £400 :o can't see it sticking around for too long

  5. Another shout could be a Phil Jones Suitcase. 300w 4x5" combo that has 2 inputs with separate volume and EQ settings

PJB gear is used by upright and electric players so should do the job perfectly for electro acoustic too.

I saw Bass Direct have a used Suitcase right now for £500, of course this might not be quite what you're looking for

  6. Keep an eye on the marketplace here and eBay/Gumtree for Squier necks that might occasionally pop up. Be worth putting an ad up in the Items Wanted section too!

Another place to look is the "decorative" section of Thomann, might be able to get a whole bass for the price of a neck!

    Best of luck

  7. I'm not sure if you actually have an interest in Greek culture or it's just a username

but I came across this word: Psilos which means bare/smooth/uncovered in ancient Greek. Thought it would be quite fitting for the nature of the design and finish.

  8. As mentioned, others have been in but as very background characters with very few lines if any. The Sheeran spot felt forced, almost like a SNL sketch or something. I know in the books Arya does come across a singing soldier so it fits but he didn't need to go "yeah, it's a new one". One shot of his face singing would have been enough to show he was there like the other "guest spots"

    Anyway, it's done now

For me the problem with Yamaha is that the model numbers don't tell you much, you say a BB series, well a BBNE2 is around £3500!
This.

The BB series has been through so many iterations a more specific model is needed to give you a value.

  10. In b4 Maruszczyk is recommended. Custom bass made to your spec in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, see the thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254344-the-official-maruszczyk-club/page__pid__3336039__st__2040#entry3336039 .

Or P pickup ready to go, you could look at Yamaha BB series. New ones on the way so the higher end older models 1024/2024 are on offer and apparently incredible passive basses.

Best of luck on your search!

  11. Not sure how many are aware of this but there is a Musicians Hearing Scheme https://www.helpmusicians.org.uk/working-retired-musicians/musicians-hearing-health-scheme

For £40 (£30 if you are an MU member) you get a hearing assessment and a pair of custom made ear plugs plus more. Not bad if you ask me.

  12. Enquired....can't seem to find anything about an SVT300 cab. Anyone else got a better guess as to what model it is?

EDIT: My guess is it's an SVT210HE. Happy to be proven wrong though
