1. when i worked and was well paid i used to buy quite a few cds from a second hand record store. But i got bored with buying an album where most the songs are crap, so now i use spotify and if i really like the whole album i will order it off amazon. Theres a massive difference between pokemon cards and music. Pokemon cards wasnt down to taste, it was a social status thing. The better the cards you had the more respected you would be at school. Too many people now dont give music a chance. If its not in the genre they subscribe to they usually wont even listen to a song
2. we've already established its with a pick. I want a better clue
3. talk to gary willis. He did exactly that at a masterclass
4. kind of like if a comedian was supposed to be doing improv about a subject but just blurted out words that were connected to the subject. Without it being a sentence its just not funny
5. thats not improvisation thats just noodling around a key centre. Completely un musical to me
6. thing is i don't get with the millions of bass vids on youtube that people put up is they just seem to be playing as many licks as they have at their disposal. Why can't people just come up with a melody and make a song out of it, then put that up instead? The bass sounds very nice though the guys got great technique.
7. its definitely pick. I give up, all picked basses sound the same to me.
8. i really dont think buying pedals is the answer. More likely to be the mix in levels is wrong in your band. Also you wont get the same tone as at home because you push the amp and cab more at louder levels when playing a gig
9. firstly if its just one sound your after then why have more than one bass that can deliver that sound? what basses have you tried that can deliver a tone similar to what your after? I would say the sadowsky pre amp will give you a punchy jazz bass tone that cuts through (going by sadowsky metro's I've played)
10. i think this should be moved to the "waynes been let out again" forum
11. bought a strap off gareth and it came the next day! chuffed
12. one thing i've found with many students is they want to learn this stuff in a week. If your not practising everyday its going to be very difficult unless you have lots of previous experience on another instrument. Same with reading, its taken me a couple of years to get my reading to an ok standard and i've been doing it everyday for 3 years.
13.
Had a nice day at Abbey Rd, I was along to meet a guy working there as my mate (Andy Treacey) was doing a drum session for him... I will be doing some things with him hopefully too. Elliott Randall came down to play a bit of gtr, and I even bumped into Paul McCartney in the corridor... Sorry for the name drop but it's been a bit of a day
If you do the session in abbey road and you need a roadie...... sounds like a great day jake!

15. can't believe i couldn't afford tickets to brixton! I'm sure it will be one of the all time great musical moments that will come from this decade. It's pino at brixton, s i can't see a reason for them to change for this
16. on the subject of slap. Does anybody else find it really difficult to cut through the mix when slapping. Particually when there is 2 guitars playing
17. this was last year, possibly october/november. I know a jazz from a p bass
18. depends on the gigs your doing. Really you need both so you can play jazz on the fodera and pop on the fender
19. there was one on ebay, unbelievably it went for £750!!!
20.
Been offered a bass for £350 ono, needs strings, bow rehair and setup. It has a case but no pickup. Its in pretty good nick. Would this be a good investment etc, I want to play blues/jazz but with arco occasionally too. It would be my first db, so i could use some tips on what to look for too please guys! r
i bought one of these last year for £400! its a great bass, i've often thought about an upgrade and then realised unless I'm going to get an old bass there is no point, it sounds great! The action on mines high for jazz playing which can be annoying but i want it high so i can practice arco. I don't think it'l be a good investment in terms of it'l go up in value but you will definitely get your moneys worth out of it. I went with some silver splappers on it and they sound and feel brilliant
21.
!! Bit harsh, eh? No music from the Midlands? Not like that for me when I hung about The Mitre in Stourbridge, or JB's in Dudley, or even the Barrel Organ and Edwards No. 8 Bar in Brum.... It's been a few years now, but cracking times, with top people and bostin' music. Some of the nicest, most generous people I've met have been from Liverpool... I'm not up on the music scene there, but I've heard a rumour one or two bands from the town scraped the top 100?
tbf to include birmingham was a bit harsh as i've never lived there so wouldn't know the little bars and venues. It just doesn't seem as musically alive as london, although it could be very underground And yes Liverpool has a great amount of history in music. But, it still came across as the worst place i've ever visited. Especially in you get lost around the back streets. I've never seen so many boarded up windows on houses!
22. ahh yes i forgot about sherwood forest! that is great tbf (when your 5 years old) Yes the bass gallery is where sei basses are made, and nope its in Camden. Denmark street is just off oxford street (the fashion shops for the wife ) and has still got 5 or 6 really good music stores, 2 or 3 of which sell the odd bass
23.
I know. I'm from Liverpool and I live in Nottingham... I went to Guildford once... can't say I remember much about it.
sorry big john, i was born in nottingham and its ok if you want to get a nice Paul Smith Suit but liverpool.... and yes Guildford is for old people, if it wasn't for the ACM being here there isn't a chance in hell i would choose to live here! Because of ACM it has got a great music scene though. Nearly every pub has live music and there are jam nights every night somewhere.
24. sorry if I'm getting this wrong. Does it take out the frequencies that make the cones move? And we can't hear these frequencies anyway? Slightly confused by the whole thing but the video makes it look very useful although i think an explanation for tech dummies such as myself would be good.
