1. If you know you're competent, go to jams with session players and show them that they should give you gigs.
2. Bought some tuners from mottle feeder. Very well packaged, great communication. Easy purchase
3. 2008- now have been pretty decent. Before that I thought they were dogs, especially the s1 switching series and my jazz deluxe was crap to.
4. bought a pedal off Mark. Was packaged well, in superb condition and arrived promptly!
5. I had one of these but sadly I left it in a practice room for 5 minutes and it had been nicked! Its better than the Korg pitchblack I got to replace it.
6.
But seriously, have a look at this band's website ....... may give you some ideas http://www.jukeboxfunctionband.com/
Interesting that you picked these guys up, I used to live with the drummer. Just to give you an idea I got offered to dep for them last summer for £250.
7.
You mean it doesn't weigh 12 Kgs!? Really!?
I swear that some of the Alembics I've tried have been pretty close to 12Kg
8.
Crikey - hadn't spotted that. So, 12 Kg (26.5 Lbs). It might even be heavier than my mahogany-and-brass Blazer. Surely not.
Again, no. It's the same weight as any other mex fender.
9. I love mine. But be warned, apparently it's not an American standard pickup in the 60th anniversary. According to a post from a rep at fender uk it was instead a mex made 60's reissue pickup. I cannot remember what forum it was on as it was a long time ago but it's worth a google search. He went on to say it was a catalogue mistake that was never changed. I must admit they lacked a bit of low end. I replaced the pick up with some fralins and it's now so good that it is the only bass I will never sell.
10. Often people misunderstand certain music and label it as 'choppy' when it's actually because they don't understand or can't relate to what it is they are listening to. By learning how to play it you will often find the musical purpose of it. To say " idon't like that because it is too technical" is a big mistake.
11. While I own 3 basses I always practice on the 5 string because I really want to learn it inside out. It's a lot easier for me to go from a 5 string to a 4 string rather than a 4 string to a 5 string. Are all songs recorded with a 5 string? Hell no, but that doesn't mean you can't use it to add something extra when you fancy it. I completely agree that those top guys know how to get the best from their favoured instrument, because they have become so used to them.
12. well he's stated he would end for £1300 to be fair so I dont see it being about for to much longer
13. Grades are mostly based on understanding the theory behind the music rather than technique. You would be better off expanding on a simple song than by playing something technical because it shows you have an understanding of the music you are performing.
14.
I`d have said approx start-off at about £4000, then a case of luck if someones selling.........
£4000!!!! Where have you seen that? I think £6k+ depending on condition and your haggling skills is more realistic if buying from a dealer. I think Bass Gallery had one advertised not to long ago for £8000
15. *@)$** off you **%#*=** *+%#@ or else I'll *%#@* your *^%#<#* $€@/ Tits
16. its gone I would have said as these are 2.5k new that this was exceptionally low, especially with the fretless neck included!
17. haha, run matt! This site is way too much of a distraction!
18.
So the story that he "ripped the frets" out and slapped on some yacht varnish is massively simplifying it Whereas the work was actually done to professional standards not so much DIY?
I don't think anyone with no maintenance experience could do it properly. My biggest gripe with jaco is how he constantly boasted he was self taught... He was taught by friends and musicians before or on the gig, so he was still tutored like anyone else.
19.
Yeah, but surely, at his level, he would be surrounded by luthiers examining the minutest problem with his bass, especially the DIY defret
Jaco was already at the age of 19 working as a guitar repairer and obviously had a lot of confidence in himself. Theres a lot written about Jaco and it does'nt take much of a search to find a lot about him in great detail.
20. He played a 60's jazz bass. Some say they are the best bass guitars money can buy. He bought his for $60.
21. There doesnt seem to be a lot wrong with the neck. Seems like a 78-81 rosewood p bass neck with the serial scratched off. The body could also be late 70's, I've seen a fair few with a finish like that and it appears to have the correct holes for bridge and p/u covers. The pickups are obviously from a jackson bass, probably 90's as they are identical to the pickups on a Jackson I used to own. I'm not sure about the bridge, might be the pics but it looks a bit wonky. Obviously the neckplate is either a reproduction or off a 60's fender but not original. All in all this looks to be a dog of a fender.
22. Shall we presume the author was just a tad biased towards rock music?
