For me, the advantage the ME50b has is ease of use in the "stompbox" mode - effectively you have the compressor plus three independant stompboxes with good old fashioned knobs rather than menus! Much easier to make changes on the hoof live. But, if you use programmed presets, the Zoom undoubtedley switches between patches much quicker than the ME50b. Personally, I would recommend the ME50b for live use (used in stompbox mode), but the Zoom for recording - depends which you need to do.
See now i want both of them, you're really not helping my bank balance you know!
2. also am i right in thinking the zoom is also a usb interface?!
3.
If you're after just effects rather than cab/amp simulation, look at the Line6 M5/M9/M13. They're amazing sounding stomp box modellers which offer fairly powerful tweakability but near idiot proof simplicity. True bypass when not in use so you maintain your tone. Having owned and used a GT6B, a Bass POD XT Live and numerous stomp pedals over the years, I've gotta say my M13 is the best sounding, most flexible and easy to use multi-fx so far for me. http://uk.line6.com/products/stompboxpedals/ T

after 20 years playing, owning several large pedal boards, myriad mutli fx including the GT boss series, over 60 basses and 50 20 amps, i can safely and confidently say that the single best bit of kit i have EVER owned is my Zoom B9.1ut Its LIGHT YEARS ahead of the Boss, its a far more modern and up to date processor with INSTANT switching. Very high quality sounds and options, including the two way wah pedal capable of controlling 4 seperate parameters; and a valve. Its a STUNNING bit of equipment. Dont be fooled by the zoom name, its top notch, high quality, top end kit. I simply cant recommend it enough
Ok i had pretty much made my my mind up until you both showed up! I had already had a bit of a read up on the line 6 stuff but zoom hadn't even entered my head (think its because I recall a guitarist having one of their first multi pedals and hated it!)
4.
Yep, afaik it's the same cosm circuits in both, the GT6B just has more options. Unless you're desperate for amp sims (which I found unusable on the guitar version) or very odd FX that you'll probably never use, the ME is the better bet IMO.
I think I'm sold on the me,now just a matter of one coming up for sale here or on the bay!
5.
It's not to do with the controls, it's to do with the amount of parameters. If someone's trying to get to grips with effects, it's better not to go overboard being able to modify every little thing. I used to be really into guitar effects and knew the Gt6 inside out but it could still take me over and hour to set up a patch I was happy with which if you're trying to learn would be frustrating. The Me50 is set out like a few stomp boxes and has the controls you'd expect on them so is more intuitive and less fiddly.
Are the quality of the effects the same?
6. I'm pretty techy and quite enjoy setting stuff up so that side of things doesn't really bother me,but now I'm in 2 minds and split between the me50b and the gt6b,it seems the gt6b has amp modelling and a di where as the me50b doesn't so it would better suit a live/recording situation, any further pros and cons from owners of these units?
7. after playing around with a guitarist friends of mine effects i want some! im thinking the best introduction to this would be a multi effects unit as i can play around with a multitude of effects that way, although im pretty clueless as i have NEVER used effects live or otherwise. After a quick perusal of the net the boss gt6b looks quite promising and come up second hand quite a lot,any negatives towards it here? also be thankful for any other recommendations.
8. "It is made for your exclusive use and it can last for a lifetime" Does that mean its only for me and wont work for anyone else then?
9.
If it's any help they look almost identical to my Fender Mexican Jazz pickups. The rubber strips on the bottom are the same and they have the same shape with the covers off. I'mnot saying they aren't American, they just look similar.
after just google image searching for "mexican jazz pickup" it would appear thats exactly what they are!
10. Out of curiosity what does an alnico magnet look like?
11. surely someone has some insight?!
12. He wants collection only so I'm guessing he had no idea how to select collection only!
13. bought a case from Paul which unfortunately was damaged by the courier, Paul was really understanding and gave me a full refund and better customer service than you would expect from a shop! I know this isn't your usual kind of feedback but important none the less,Paul is a top bloke, and you can be more than confident to deal with him.
14. Pm the link to me…I won't tell anyone else…promise!
15. Bought a jazz plate from Jim,nice smooth transaction and a thoroughly nice chap, comes highly recommended.
16.
I'm thinking of building a 4 string P bass from fender parts.... can you mix 'n' match from say the MIM 'MIJ or made in the u.s. ....? Any tips would be appreciated Ian.
only experience I have is putting a jap neck in a mex body and the body needed a little tweak for the neck to fit properly.
17. We tried to buy a pv ipr amp last year but the guy in shop told us they weren't making the big ones anymore as there es a manufacturing issue, can't recall the details but you might want to look into it.

19.
Exactly If you stick with root / fifth / octave with the odd run as you would a fretted, they sound really good! I practice with a tuner to get my ear trained. (sorry this has hijacked your string thread with a fretless discussion!)
Not at all, mystery over as far as the strings go but I'm still terrible on fretless! Are there any novice/intermediate pieces you would recommend to get me warmed up and help with intonation?
20. I think when I first got it I made the mistake of trying to play really intricate fretless parts and failing, but now I have realised probably the best thing to do is to play it like a normal bass first just to get used to the (weird) thing!
21.
This made me chuckle I'm not the best player in the world, but even I would struggle to do that! I went fretless to get rid of the buzz....... Still, when the neck was out, you couldn't play it past the 7th [s]fret[/s] er position
Ha! i recently acquired a fretless myself, its lined but even with the markers i make it look hard, which im pretty sure is a bad thing
22.
No problem I should be asleep but I just had a really great session on my fretless and I'm still buzzing
fret buzz on a fretless?!
23. Elites thank you, was just wading through a few other "what strings are these" threads and probably would have took me ten years to find that!
24. I have some strings on a bass i bought and i really like the strings but have no idea what they are, they have a blue silk at the head end and a red silk at the ball end.....this is a pretty distinct characteristic so someone must know what they are!
25.
Thanks for the battery tips - I'd heard the inbuilt batteries only last 1 - 1/12 hours, so had been wondering which external options lasted longer. Looks like a trip to Maplins is on the cards. I got to try the briefcase out properly last night during a jazz/latin trio set. We did the gig as upright bass/vocals, trumpet and piano and played just over 2 hours. We were playing quite loud and the the pianist (who also plays bass in bands) liked the sound even more than my bigger Phil Jones rig (8x5 cab with M300 head). I think the briefcase will handle a louder set-up including drums, but I'm very pleased with the bigger rig so will continue with that those occassions.
Don't buy a battery from maplins they are really expensive! Have a look on eBay, basically the higher the Ah the longer the battery will last.....you will of course need a charger.....or if like me a member of your family has a golf trolley rob their charger....and on occasion their battery! If you get a battery and need a lead you can have mine for the cost of postage...its got the plugs on one end that go to the amp and crocodile clips the other to clip on your battery.
