Up for sale my Trace V type 4x8 combo, 250 watt loud as hell beast! its in great condition with a few minor scuffs to the grill,carpet is in really good condition with no rips etc. (edit) just remembered this definately does not have the bi-polar bear power stage. I have been using this as my main gigging rig for about the last 6 months with no problems at all,but now the band I am gigging with have a full pa so all i need is my little Ampeg combo as a monitor as I am running through subs making this sadly sit doing nothing and taking up much needed space. I bought a double bass from Al, great comms throughout and when I realised I had forgot to get the included bow he posted it to me which was incredibly nice of him,comes highly recommended

After doing a bit of reading on the net and here regarding pickups I have decided to get a virtuoso,this is based on reviews and the fact I'm a tight arse! I was about to buy a new one after missing out on one on eBay but thought I would see if anyone on here has one they want to get rid of first as a new one looks like it will take a little while to get here first.

thanks for all your replys, im certainly leaining towards the spiro's! My bass is probably on the small side of 3/4 though (scale is about 40.3 inches) so do you think the mediums would be a better choice as my tension will be a bit lower anyway? also is there anywhere i can find them cheaper than 140ish quid....(almost makes me wanna cry!) anyone with a secondhand set burning a hole in a spare drawer please send me a pm

Hi Jim, whats the tension on those like? i mainly ask as the guy doing the work on my bass said lower tension strings would need a higher action and in that case a new bridge fitting. When you say they feel very different to steels,in what way do you mean?

I am pretty new to db (brand new in fact!) and already i am baffled by the inevitable "what strings" conundrum. The double i recently purchased has been with a luthier for the past few days and is now set up and sounding a whole world better than when i got it,unfortunately the strings on it are by the looks of things about 20 years old and sound pretty dead in places so its time to replace. I have the bass to play purely acoustically currently,playing bluegrass/folk styles of music,i quite like to dig in but cant see myself slapping it or bowing it (except purely to aid my intonation) so playing mainly pizz and not installing a pickup (as yet) i quite like the feel of the strings already on it which are metal core and im guessing around medium tension. Any recommendations would be highly appreciated as i have practically no idea what im doing and can see me making some pretty expensive mistakes! Cheers Chris.

all i know is the finish is original (albeit pretty cracked and battered!) is there any discerning features of the finish on it that will tell me what it is?

I recently acquired a double bass from b.c and its relatively beaten up,nothing structurally wrong with it but more aesthetics than anything else. I know that old d.b's are finished in spirit varnish but I have no idea of the age of this or the finish used,basically i was wondering if I colour matched the bare areas of wood and French polished it will it have any detrimental affects to the bass?
