  1. I’m using a swing bass 50-110 set tuned to d standard. really nice feel and great tone.

  4. I would love to be able to buy from a bricks and mortar shop, But they simply don't carry the stock or option of brands that I'm looking for. Even things such as strings are hard to get at the moment due to varying issues, but even then finding a shop that stocks 50-110 strings is increasingly difficult with out going to a specialist - either andertons or GAK for a physical shop (somewhere between 1 and 3 hours away) or a few clicks away on a pc without any petrol outlay the only basses they stock in the local emporium are real entry level stuff - not that theres anything wrong there, but I tend to look for things which are generally a couple of rungs up the ladder if you understand me.
  5. prick up your ears - devilish presley
  6. not necessarily I have band gigging basses, recording basses and teaching basses. These roles are not exclusive (they often go through phases and rotations), but as I'm living out of a suitcase atm, I play what I have to hand.
  7. but the leeds reappears - albeit with a muff 😒
  8. car trouble - adam and the ants
  9. novocaine for the soul - eels
  10. I hadn't seen this thread before, but I wanted to say that I use 50-110 in one of my bands, and also dropped to D standard. They sound great and the tension is quite reminiscent of 45-105 tuned to standard. I'm using Swing bass rs66 strings btw

  13. I know what you mean, but no one seems to have copied the idea as yet - it must be registered somewhere with Rickenbacker's lawyers watching lol
  14. I have four plus dep work. I have a decent diary - and as it's my job, it works. All members of my bands know exactly what the score is - first to the diary wins.
  15. I've been full time pro for around 17 years. this is not only gigging, but also teaching. However, approx 50-60% of my income comes from live work
  16. die with your boots on - maiden
  17. A little tester for a good friend- yes a loan for a good/ trusted friend - absolutely a series of shows for an unknown to me person - definitely no.

  21. as another side step the optogate is a great signal, and uses an optical element to essentially switch the mike on when you get close to it. Microphone Gates | Optogate (optogateonline.com)
