1. That's great Dave. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with me & for the very kind offer of ABing. Just out of interest, what Fralin's do you think could work really well with this bass? I was tempted to look into hum cancelling pickups but have read from player/users that the hum cancelling types of single coil pickups rob a fair bit of the single coil character away. Is this true in your experience?
2. Thanks for the very helpful replies matey's. Dave, what would you say the Wizards offered you tonally that the stock pickups didn't. Did they offer you more of the tone that you were after/What is that tone? Thanks
3. I just bought a used Squier CV 60's jazz from another Bass Chat member & it's being delivered on Wednesday. I've been rooting around some of the forums (Basschat, Talkbass etc.) & found threads on CV 60's Jazz upgrades & mods that players & owners have had done, but for some reason, i can't seem to find the links anymore... Hence the post. I've read a few mixed reviews on the stock pickups, but largely they have been received very positively, so I'm not sure whether this is an area that i would upgrade...but what do you think? Would you/Have you upgraded the stock pickups & If so, what to & what difference did this make to the overall sound of this bass? Was it a worthwhile upgrade? From what i remember of the threads i was reading the other day, the electronics would benefit from a complete upgrade up to Fender USA Jazz specs, replacing the tone & volume pots, caps, wiring & switch jack. Has anyone else done this? I can't seem to find a USA Jazz bass Re-Wire upgrade kit anywhere online. If this is something that you have done, again, is so, what did you use? Are there any other upgrades that i should consider? Some players/owners mentioned changing the tuners but i doubt that this is something I'll do unless absolutely necessary Any feedback & pointers from Squier CV 60's Jazz players & owners would be really appreciated, Thanks
4. 5.
Buy it on 4 monthly payments of £175 = £700 shipped to your door
Interesting. How would this work?
6. I really want this, but you're too far away (4 hours!) as im based in London but would want to check it over before purchasing. Been waiting for one of these to come up for a while now!
7. Im ideally looking for a trade here. Looking for a Squier Classic Vibe Precision or Squier Matt Freeman Bass, with additional cash my way to make up the difference. I may consider other Precision basses depending on the offer, but looking for a bass of the precision variety for sure. I will sell this bass for £750 outside of a trade offer. This bass is less than a year old, has hardly been played & never been gigged. Comes with all original Fender tags etc. Not sure why the pictures have attached themselves in a sideways perspective. Here's a link to better pictures:- http://s837.photobuc...ecision%20Bass/
8.
Its probably worth asking the seller. I think mine was just under 8.5lbs but im sure they vary slightly. I could weigh mine tonight but it has a Lakland neck on it and different bridge so it wouldn't be an accurate stock weight. I can tell you its the lightest bass ive ever owned, even lighter than my CV Jazz.
Thanks. I just sent him a message asking about the weight
9. How about this:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110885995001?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Would it be light weight?
10. Thanks for the replies. Is the Matt Freeman Squire the same as the CV 60's P?
11. I have a lovely Fender Road Worn 50's P bass which since purchase has seen hardly any use unfortunately due to my band splitting up. As a result Im now contemplating selling/trading it in the classifieds to release some cash that is tied into it. I f that happens, i will use some of the cash from the sale for a cheaper replacement Precision style bass. But i don't want it be no slouch! My requirements are that it be under £300 new or used (preferably used though), sounds great & that it is as lightweight as can be (no heavier than 8.5lbs max) Having looked around online & on this forum, a few names keep popping up:- Squier Classic Vibe Precision, Squier Vintage Modified Precision, Vintage V4, Bass Collection Power Bass. Would i take a big, noticable quality dip on any of these coming from my Fender RW 50's P? Can you recommend any of these listed as my best buy or point me elsewhere? Thanks, Mat

13.
MIM?
It is indeed MIM - & Proud of it! These really are high quality instruments. I could have walked out with any precision that day - I tried lots of them, mostly high end MIA's, but the RW 50's really impressed me.
14. I was after a lightweight P Bass & ended up buying this Road Worn 50's after comparing it to other P's, all of which were more expensive. This is by far the most comfortable bass i have ever played! So here is my mini review:- This bass guitar is lightweight! Mine is about 7.7lbs. I think the body is made of specially selected lightweight Alder which is extremely resonant. Pluck a string & this thing vibrates like nothing i've ever experienced before - amazing resonance which really gives it a lovely sound & feel when played acoustically (practice time). The neck is a thing of wonder! It is a 1 piece Maple neck with a larger fretboard width than i have been used to, which i thought would put me off straight away, but as soon as i picked her up & started playing it all made perfect sense & felt so, so right. The neck has a slim profile, which makes navigating the wider fretboard a breeze & this is the easiest playing neck i have ever layed my hands on - Allowing for very fast playing if required. The 1 thing that really stands out about this wider neck is that it gives massive sustain to notes - I could play an open E, put the bass on it's stand, go & make a cup of tea, wait for it to cool down, drink it then come back to the bass & it would still be ringing....Well, not quite, but you get the picture - MASSIVE sustain! Not only that but the notes take on a more authorative & powerfully decisive timbre because of this added girth. This bass means business. This is everything that a real bass should be. It fits like a glove too & is the first bass i've owned that truly feels like an extension of me - It is ludicrously playable & in being so, coaxes out the very best from my playing. Ok, so this thing sounds fantastic unplugged, but when plugged in, i am blown away by the quality of tones on offer. Ok, it's a P Bass so you know what kind of tones to expect - Well this Beauty has them in bucketloads. The variation in the tonal control is awesome going from a deep dubby sound to a more defined, but no less ballsy sound. I used to have a G & L L2000 that was an absolute tone machine (most tones i personally didnt use in my band setting) so i know about tonal variation within a bass & i can honestly say that for no matter what style of music i'll be playing in the future, i will never need another bass - there is more than enough tonal variation & versatility on offer here to have me covered forever (btw, im not a slapper). With just 1 volume dial & 1 tone dial, i have more usable sounds in 1 bass than i've ever had before - The search is over. This is how a bass should sound. I happen to think that this is the coolest looking bass that i have ever laid my eyes on & i personally love the relicing. The components & hardware are all top drawer - The pickup is Fat & The Nitro finish is so player friendly - Nice & slick (Not sticky in heat) Im over the moon with my new bass Sorry that i have left out a few bits - i am hurrying out of the door to get to work, so this is a bit of a rushed review, however, if you have any questions about this bass, fire away & i will try to answer later. For now, here's some pics:-
15. Well here she is.... She is so Lightweight, has an amazing tone & the neck is superb - nice & fat but with a thin profile - It makes playing an absolute breeze. This MIM P is of the highest standard in terms of fit & finish & tone - equally comparable & surpassing the MIA P's i compared her to. These MIM RW 50's P's are mightily impressive. Im blown away by the quality of this instrument + she looks great!!
16. I ended up buying a 50's Road Worn Precision. It is the best bass guitar I have ever played & lightweight too
17. Hi there. Please could you tell me the weight of this bass & also, does it have an active/passive switch? Cheers
18.
I have a SR500, I got it because of a back and neck problem, it plays and sounds great, and very versatile with so many tones available. The neck is lightening fast, it's well balanced, and weighs just 6.5lbs! I have owned many very good basses in the past, and still do, but my SR500 is definitely my favourite. I have just purchased another one, which I am now modding, and I also have a SR505 5-string. The two SR500's cost me a total of £470 s/h, but both in pristine condition, and the SR505 cost £400, and was only two weeks old. That's how much I like them!
So, based on your experience & similar health problems due to heavy bass playing, i take you would advise me taking a punt on the new Ibanez SR1200 then?
19. Please can you tell me a price on this bass? Thanks
20.
Fender 50's Precision, MIM. Black with gold pickguard. Condition is as new. Less than 3 months old - only played around the house. No dinks, dents, marks or anything. Just a few, less than 1mm surface marks on pickups that were on them when it came brand new from Soundslive. I'm being over-picky here - but they are the only, even slight marks on this beauty! Comes with new and unused Fender deluxe padded gig bag. Re-strung with D'addario Nickels, 45-105. Pick-up only on this - located in Tenterden in Kent. These are just over £600 new - I'm looking for around £480. Please drop me a PM if interested...or call 0784 770 4422 (mobile reception not great all the time - so please leave a voicemail and I'll get back to you). I did put this on a few weeks back, but never bumped it up due to wanting to keep it! However, this time it has to go....
Please could you tell me the exact weight of this bass, Thanks,
