This is a semantic argument now.
The Beatles were from Israel? Who knew!!
I guess you're still in your teens so Ill drop it this time.
I'll refer you to my previous reply about making ridicluous posts while not having been here long enough to make a worthwhile point.
It has become almost impossible to say you don't like The Beatles---people throw proper hairy canary hissy fits if you do (just read the last few pages).I think its because lots of Beatles fans are unable to appreciate that it is entirely possible to accept how influential and important the Beatles were whilst not actually enjoying their artistic output. I like The Beatles (although they do have quite a few turds hidden amongst the gems) but just because something is important and influential doesn't mean you have to actually like it.
............ and we're back to being a musicians forum again!
It's like when someone says something like "xyz is a crap bassist" even though they are part of a globally popular and successful band - their global success and popularity is the very thing that gives them artistic merit.
Aaah, ...... you mean like Sid Vicious?
I didn't ask if you had any Beatles albums. I asked if you had LISTENED to them. Not judged, just listened. No need to be violent just because I don't share your opinion.
Speaking of "judging", I'm judging from your replies to all of the posts on this page alone, that your replies are there just to wind others up "pal" ............ and rack up your post count. Naturally like everyone else on this forum I buy CDs or other media just to look at the pretty pictures on the cover.
Have you listened to the Beatles at all or are you just being silly?
Since you've hardly been on this forum long enough to take a dump I would suggest in future you read a whole thread before making ridiculous posts like that; I've already said twice - at least - in this thread that I own several Beatles recordings across two formats. AFAIC they're just another set of recordings that have ended up in a corner of a shelf of stuff I barely listen to.
In the meantime, over 30 years after their demise, the Beatles continue to influence songwriters and musicians.
That phrase in itself is meaningless & whether it's Dylan or Dylan Thomas a phrase that's thrown around far too much in these vacuous days of non-inspirartion - such "influences" should be left up to the musician in person to admit to - and not have it anointed onto him by an obsessed fan. Noel gallagher excepted, because he admitted it, but there again, he nicked riffs off Marc Bolan & Mott too, it's no big thing. It's a safe bet that most of those involved in yesterday's fiasco would have agreed to be "influenced" by Beatles just to get the publicity.
It's not people's individual opinions of The Beatles that is really the issue here, it's the denial of their global influence
You've said that several times now - and not only you - but I've yet to see where anyone is denying their influence. Not liking what they did isn't the same thing. How can it be "really the issue here", if it's not happening?

Hmm, lots of musicians getting their knickers in a twist because other musicians won't agree with them about their favourite music from 40-50 years ago, then repeating their dogma over & over even though many replies didn't even go there? Not healthy. Ha! Even as I type a song comes on the radio that, even though I have about half a dozen Beatles recordings 5 x CD, 1 x vinyl, this one song does more for me than any Beatles song - at all! That's not to say Billy Gibbsons is a better player, or Dusty better than Macca - but the song has got "it" - for me, YMMV etc etc.
Don't think I'll eeever tire of hearing that chorus, one of the soundtracks of my life.
Via "Weekend World" on Sunday lunchtimes like so many?

IIRC it's been established it's published on a shoe-string. I know most of Guitarist & Guitar&Bass are laid out a month in advance, so if BGM is the same they wouldn't be able to afford the delay in going back & rehashing the pages no matter how much they wanted to fix their mahoosive balls up. I'm assuming it's perfect bound which means drying time & at what? .... around 60pp+ there's a whole lot of folding on those sheets to take up time too.
-
........ well you started it! No we didn't........ etc etc

Same singer as did the anti-war classic Eve of Destruction - which may have been more appropriate to this thread.

Oh yes, - there was plenty of chances for us all to practise our Black Country accents. We even went to Pouk Hill, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHjfvppoBQQ .... a place that once was a hill, but it now an ex-quarry park hole in the ground, used by them for an album cover pic in the middle of winter. psst! quick - put it back on topic! what? PUT IT BACK ON TOPIC, THEY'RE LOOKING!!! Oh yeah .......... Jimmy Lea rated McCartney.
Funny old thing, language. I was reading this thread with a persistent interpretation as in 'This bread tastes flipping terrible...'. It still reads rather strangely to me, all this talk of 'flipping basses'. No, no; it's only me. Just saying, that's all.
It's a subtle build up for tomorrow (Pancake day), don't worry about it.
Have stopped reading the thread but the coachloads visiting Paul's house evidences the fact that they are overrated. No-one is worthy of that nonsense.
In a pathetic attempt to make this the most quoted post ever in the history of BC - which will ensure a future of coachloads of jazz fans on buses visiting this thread............ In the dim & distant I once went on a bus-tour of Wolverhampton & surrounding areas which featured a taped commentary by one N Holder of Walsall. He took the P repeatedly & not always in a banter way, however in mitigation for the busload of fans and some soon to be ex-fans.... 1) We were pissed 2) It was raining & there was nowt else to do 3) We were kids and knew no better, 4) Where we came from there was nothing worth travelling to look at in the same way. 5) We were very pissed 6) We later admitted it was a fairly sad thing to do.

I find it fascinating on a musicians forum that other users are decried for simply not liking the output of another musician; calling them anything else is ridiculous. Since when was one person's personal taste open to negative posts or ridicule? I find McCartney's voice, in the main, boring and bland, Harrison's guitar work insipid in the main & Lennon from most accounts sounds like a hypocritical b.o.a.t. which doesn't lend him to open consideration. I do have a few Beatles recordings, couldn't tell you the last time I played any of it, don't miss it & never find myself humming one of their tunes walking down the street. The same could be said of any average punter in the street of any band you care to mention, but because it's The Beatleszzzzz it's makes you tasteless, or in denial? Get [s]Back[/s] real!
Sorry, but Chuck and Bo were hardly played on the radio in the UK until after the Beatles
Apart from the four UK hits Chuck Berry had before "Love Me Do", or Bo's first UK hit in '55.
-
When the Beatles came along they switched the lights on. Before that we were in the dark.
I think that credit is taken by Chuck Berry & Bo Diddley; who between them elevated the guitar to a mainstream, commercial, lead instrument rather than just a backing part of a large group & gave Alan Freed a life. Without those two The Beatles could well have not even had the inclination towards being musicians. They of course in turn cite T Bone Walker, Robert Johnson, Django Reinhart, etc.
What's that, Flipper, you've got a really good Fender P for sale? And you're selling it why exactly? Ah, I see... it's because you can't actually play bass. Because you're a dolphin.
Bugger! Wouldn't even be able to do scales!!! ...... cos like ....... dolphins don't have scales. I'll get me towel.........
Great, so we've been arguing over something that isn't even happening?
Hopefully - or - not that I've seen, but I don't pay a whole lot of attention, I've been off-loading guitars lately rather than buying. Apologies too for being like a dog with a bone. I like this place & wouldn't like to see it's "spirite de corps" spoiled. There's a lot of sage advice & opinion here - apart from them that deny The Beatles were crap - but that's another thread.
Is there anyone on the forum who is making a habit of it? I've not noticed. Hardly anything is selling consistently at the moment, I'd be genuinely flabbergasted if someone is able to consistently turn a profit buying stuff on the forum and selling it for more money a short time later.
As I said, I think it was an "in theory" question. It wanted an answer - presumably "in principle". He got several, maybe he was planning on being a flipper, I neither know nor care, but I dare say the response, and more importantly the official clarification might have deterred him.
you jump down my throat about "not looking out for each other" and accusing me of only being interested in money, when you know nothing about me.
Just for the record I didn't accuse YOU of anything; though if by your argument in defence of it you are aligning yourself with those that are then again, that's your look-out. And - again - and as clarified, I was talking, as I believe the OP was too, about people who make a habit of it, ie. "trade" (by the demarkation of BC). AFAIK it was rhetorical question & not accusing anyone. And - again - a few have answered for, and a few against....... and some have gone off at tangents Ebay, car-bills, starving families, which wasn't intended since they're one-offs, not trading.
