I thought that I just did (almost)!!
Hmm, OK - true, so you're next step is making it into a musical

You Sir, are so spot on it's incredible! ("FBO" is the printers term) You should write a book.
I bought Ummagumma and Meddle because I had a tape I recorded off the radio of either John Peel or Bob Harris introducing them possibly at Miada Vale with the BBC concert orchestra? Atom Heart Mother, Set the controls to the heart of the sun, several small animals etc. No idea where that tape is now. Probably get it on line somewhere now.
Not among the BBC sessions releases? Got "Set The Controls" on now on the headphones; I don't do dope, but it must be a real head-f' listening to this "under the influence". edit: the vocals at the end of "Saucerful of Secrets" to the drums & keys! DAMN!!! This is going on repeat, pass the Jack!
'can't send the bass or courier it as it's too fragile and could get damaged despite the fact that it was made in a factory in the far east then sent by truck a few hundred miles to a port where it was put on a big ship then delivered to a a port in europe then transported by lorry to a depot in europe then put on another lorry which crossed the Channel by ship to Dover then carried to another distribution depot then put on another lorry who delivered it to the shop where i bought it.'
To be fair it got an awesome relic job in the process. -
My fave PF album!! Possibly...although Meddle is pretty crucial listening as well. Nice to see another Ummagumma fan ..a somewhat overlooked album I feel. BTW - I've always pronounced it to rhyme with 'drummer'. But some kids at my school used to insist it should be pronounced to rhyme with 'boomer'. What do you think?
I bought it cos around that time there was an excellent music programme on TV (17 parts!); "All You Need Is Love" (sounds familiar ) which is now out on DVD but I haven't got around to getting it yet. It had PF doing "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" live at Pompeii - and I just had to have that track - it's immense! The TV prog also had Hendrix playing Blackpool Opera House on it, with a load of audience banter going on before Wild Thing (a neighbour of mine was at the gig & has all 3 Experience autographs). I've always pronounced both parts like "gum" of the chewing variety.

One of my first "grown-up" bought albums was "Ummagumma"; I've a lot of time for PF. And they used Hiwatts - bonus!

Yes, "Tom" - we'll say "Tom", .........phew!
...and you really don't want to be on the receiving end of me doing all the actions either...
nothing to do with a cabin-boy I hope ............. can't remeber the lads name just now, oooh tippy-tonguey.
Sorry, I took that as a given.
I just didn't want anyone thinking I was referring to anything else related to them being over-rated. I'm feeling a sense of having to dot "I"s and crossing "t"s around.
As far as suggesting tracks... too much like spoonfeeding. And one man's meat 'n all that.
Fair enough, I've often assumed that when YT vids are posted with "Listen to the bass on this", or "what about this guitar tone/effect/tuning" etc type posts are looking to point something out that others have maybe missed. Which I would always concede if someone showed me something I'd missed. As I posted on another thread, a mate of mine a long time ago said about catching "Guitar legends" on TV ('91??). I'd never heard of Albert Collins at that point, but was so knocked out by his stuff that I soon bought many CDs and a couple of DVDs, he had a bit of negativity on these hallowed pages in years gone by too.
So funny that you like to call people trolls because their post count isn't high enough to your liking, yet you continue to ask provoking questions which you so obviously don't really want answered. If that isn't trolling of the worst kind I don't know what is.
You really can't help yourself can you; you trolling waste of breathe? Unlike you, with your massive count of abusive posts, not just against me, but you're racking up quiet a count of them, you only need to read back this thread to see that; I was trying to clarify a serious part of the thread. I happen to have a massive music collection across all genres, apart from rap, I work in an associated area, quite often in the music industry itself. You're obviously too dim to know a serious question when you read one, so again, as in the past, the basis of your point is wrong. It's either that or you're just out to cause trouble - based on the number of your posts being provocative - I suspect the latter.
Jeez mate! I'll need a whisky resupply if we go that way again
Damn! We'll have to postpone; I had the last of my Springbank 10 yr old just a couple of nights ago. Ah well.
I should have used the words: those that claim The Beatles (music is)* overrated.
*my edit. Better, happy now - carry on. Though no-one's taken me up on what other tracks I should find "stand out" on the albums of theirs that I have .
Much as I would like to see this thread die, I'll post this as it seems rather pertinent. This is the kind of commercial Beatles related tat that drives me nuts. Liverpool was much better without it as far as I'm concerned. http://www.liverpool...-name_page.html
True; but the pun appeal for the firemen must have been fantastic - I hope they kept the fire-engine clean, for eg.
I am now going to track you down and sing sea shanties at you...
Excellent! I'll hold you to that, it's a good night out. Will they be hauling shanties or capstain - or a nice mixture?
I saw Kirk Douglas on the beach.
What do you call a Scottish shepherd who's lost his dog? Douglas. What do you call a Scottish shepherd who's lost his dog, but has large feet? Big Shughie Douglas.
..........many of those that deny The Beatles level of influence are possibly those very same people that will sigh whenever Macca's on the box, saying, "Oh, look at that smug, arrogant p**ck... and look, Jeez, he's doing that f***in' peace sign again... twat!" I think it's likely that Sir Paul's more recent offerings, appearances, TV broadcasts and inevitable accompanying interviews, has effected their appreciation, of anything that 'that smug, arrogant p**ck' may have ever done. Even in this thread there has been the odd post started along the lines of, I can't stand Paul McCartney..., and then the poster has gone on to state why he thinks The Beatles are overrated. I wonder if Sir Macca had died in a bizarre boating accident 20 or 30 years ago if the tone of this thread may have been a little different.
I've still to see any posts on here denying his subsequent influence; personally I prefer to hear it from those that he's supposedly influenced but I don't deny it's there en masse. One thing that I did find distasteful was the slagging of him for his appearance in the Olympic & Jubilee bashes. if he hadn't been there I think it would been more baffling, though it was mostly on trendy comedy shows where most of the slagging took place; Jo Brand on QI (IIRC) was one.
What I object to is people who say that Mark King is one of best players of all time , when in fact he was just the most prominent player of that time.
100% agree with that. PP I can only marvel at his mastery, while not being totally into his music. As a demo as to what makes me want to nick someone elses hands; I was at JD's to accidentally meet MK because I wanted a bass to sound like this & John put the circuit in.........
But the fact remains that he gained a reputation as being some kind of leading virtuoso of the bass guitar
I wouldn't entirely agree with that; they weren't together that long beofre the hits started (IIRC) but at the time his slap bass was very different in the mainstream, just recovering from New Romanticsm (plus the NWOBHM), so it was different to the general public, most of who wouldn't be aware of Stanley Clarke et al. I'm no huge L42 fan, I liked what they did then, but I don't like slap bass as a rule; I prefer bowel distorting bass, except for Lemmy's but that's just so unique it's just awesome. Still - always ready to hear anyone else's qualified (as in cited) opinion.

In an attempt to get the thread back on track.............. I've just dusted off the 5 CDs and one vinyl album I own by The Beatles & they are........... Hard Days Night (vinyl) which I bought because i love the harp on "Should Have Known Better". Sgt Peppers (can't remember) Mystery Tour (Penny Lane - for a painting I was working on) The Blue GH 2xCd set (Get Back cos I love the bass tone & I like the bit in the film where they actually play live for a change) Revolver (can't remember) & Abbey Road (for "Something" & "Here Comes The Sun") I will also add that being mono (don't get excited, it's a reissue) the LP is excellent for setting up a t/t & speakers. Now, I've got a bloody good hi-fi, it can pick up an ant farting on a good day, so someone in the know tell me what I should listen to (edit: or more to the point what I should be listening out FOR on the above) , because so far as I remember, apart from the tracks listed - none of the others on them move me...... man. Speak now or forever hold your ..........
..........peace.........

Are you suggesting people shouldn't discuss the respective merits of one professional musician over another , and if so , why ?
Not at all, at least in your posts you've cited people and particular songs that to endorse your point. Maybe it's an internet thing, I've just never found it in real life................. though I suppose a "yet" would be in order at this point.
Nice try. Maybe if you're more indignant you can make your drivel sound less inane.
Hey, you're on a roll! Come on, if you try hard you can maybe make your 100th post a worthwhile one! It'd be an acheivement ........ for you.

I still find it incredible on a musicians forum to hear musicians slag musicians on their perceived ability. As I said in the you-know-what thread; my guess is that any and all pro band musicians would only judge themselves based on their part/contribution of the whole band. I know a fair few pro musicians to different degrees and at different levels, I've never heard one of them say anything snide about another musician of their aquaintance, even when drunk. There might be a veiled inference at a part they're not happy with, but nothing blatant; they're extremely diplomatic people (IME - maybe I've had a sheltered life?). Though it's heartening to see the ones on here who do make their living as musicians generally keeping out of it. edit: can't spell.
Please don't knock the Jaco non-thread as it's my favourite BC moment. Having seen (& owned) a few hatchet jobs on EB0 conversions I just wanted to highlight this excellent job by the Bass Doc here.......... http://www.ebay.co.u...230928185589%26 Great job done! Looks v authentic, especially the fuzz position which few conversions (IME) have bothered with.
