  1. As I only tend to play short scale 5 stringers nowadays I’m limited in choice unless I want to pay far more than my bank balance and my ability allows. I’ve also got an extremely soft spot for Rickenbacker and Thunderbird shaped basses, so when I saw LouieM had an Epiphone bolt on neck Thunderbird for sale I hatched a plan. Firstly I had to get it without my better half commenting on me getting yet another bass, so Louie and I met up at Reading services on my family’s return from holiday in Cornwall (having an all female family means that pee stops have to be built into every trip). Whilst they all went in, LouieM and I did the dirty deed outside Greggs (he’d very kindly removed the neck and stuck everything in a bin bag so I could shove it in the boot without it being noticed). Today everything got removed and my first task was to sand a forearm chamfer whilst I wait for a ‘63 Thunderbucker pickup to arrive from the USA and a Squier bass V1 neck also to be delivered (which has pretty much the same dimensions as my Ibanez AGB205 short scale). Once these have arrived I can start measuring and can then sort out making it headless. Here’s the very first photos. I hope my woodworking skills are up to the job
  2. Thinking of doing a short scale 5 string headless rickenthingy, so watching with interest.
  3. I should be seeing Queen with Adam Lambert at the O2 this evening (postponed from 2 years ago, bought for my wife's birthday), but I'm still showing Covid positive (been off work for the last week with it), so thats put an end to that. Hoping I'm clear by Wednesday as I've got free tickets to see Roger Daltrey in Brighton and then I'm up to Coventry to see Rammstein next Sunday (once again, postponed from 2 years ago). I will be bloody p*ssed off if I miss two concerts that were postponed due to Covid 2 years ago just because I decided to be late to the party catching it
  4. Nick bought a Ricky truss rod wrench from me. Such an easy transaction,. Great bloke.
  5. Bought a couple of years ago but not used much. There are scratches, but thats from being underneath a load of cables and bits and pieces in my bag.
  6. I was completely Phil Jones (Suitcase and C8 cab). Part-exed it for Markbass Little Mark 3 and Ninja 122 cab. Much lighter and louder. I wouldn't go back.
  7. If that was a medium or short scale I’d be in the car now to collect it. GLWTS.
  8. Bought from Rickysounds last year. Never used

  12. I've got an Ibanez EHB1005SMS and I find it so easy to play. When I go back to 'standard' frets it just seems so 'last century'. I'm a massive fan (see what I did there
  13. This is the second time I’ve met up Ben. This time he was buying a Bass V1 from me. Great chat and lovely guy.
  14. This is £300 less than I paid for mine 2 months ago. An absolute bargain for a brilliant bass.
  15. are you looking for? might trade for a short scale 5 string bass or electric upright bass. Let me know whatyou've got.
  16. Absolutely love mine - it's become my number 1 bass (and I've kept the Barts as I like them. GLWTS
  17. It's my playing. I haven't played guitar in 20 years and thought that I could easily slip back into playing simple barre chords, but because I've had to go to playing short scale basses recently because of arthritic fingers, those same fingers can't hold the pressure to fret all the strings. I'm sure someone with fingers in better condition can, but it's just not me
  18. I bought this yesterday for £400 thinking I really needed it, not realising that it's not great at what I wanted it to do, namely barre chords to fill space (being due to my arthritic fingers not being able to hold all the strings down anymore The place I bought it from had done the two things that are on all the 'improve' sites ie. put barrels in the bridge inserts to stabilise it and alter the bass E string bridge screw so that it intonates properly. It's also got new Fender Super 250's bass Vi strings (the ones it came with from the factory will come with it too). It's also had the white scratch plate changed to a mint green one (white one will come too), which gives it a great 60's vibe. It is unmarked and as new. I might trade for a short scale 5 string bass or electric upright bass. Let me know what you've got. I'm happy to post. This is what Squier say about it: The Classic Vibe Bass VI is a faithful tribute to the secret weapon of producers and adventurous players that have dared to explore it since its original production from 1961 to 1975. Tuned an octave lower than a guitar and featuring a vintage-style tremolo, the Bass VI is the perfect companion to accompany any guitar or bass player into uncharted territory. Player-friendly features include a slim and comfortable "C"-shaped neck profile with an easy-playing 9.5"-radius fingerboard and narrow-tall frets, as well as a floating bridge with barrel saddles. This FSR Squier model features a trendy shell pink finish with a matching painted headstock. 19. Dave bought a Darkglass vintage microtubes pedal from me. Very easy transaction. Great to deal with
  20. Ibanez 1005SMS - 5 string short scale, headless, fanned frets, light as a feather and so, so comfortable to play. All I've done is have the side position dots replaced with some pearl ones because the originals were impossible to see on the roasted maple neck, otherwise it's probably the most perfect bass I've ever played.
  21. Price drop Sale £120 - Trade - up to £150 Bought brand new last year for £199. Used for one rehearsal and, like every other overdrive pedal I've ever had, realised that I just don't like bass overdrives. It comes with its original box, instructions and Darkglass sticker. PS. I have stuck Velcro on, which I’ll leave. PPS. Excuse the dust, it's been sitting under the bed for the last 6 months. Here's the blurb from Darkglass: https://www.darkglass.com/creations/vintage-microtubes/
  22. I've got the EHB1005 SMS version (short scale). Absolutely love everything about it. The ergonomics are just spot on, and the fan frets make playing ordinary' straight frets' seem so last century
  23. New side dots added. I've tried moving both plugs on the circuitboard but get such an increase in volume going from passive to active (I’ve tried one, the other and combinations of both) that I’m sticking with the settings it came with.
