This is a beautiful bass I had built around a 1977 one-piece maple neck. Former Sei Bass luthier Chris McIntyre who is now based in Scotland built the ash body as a replica of a friend's 1980 Stingray. I requested the front contour, but the rear of the body is still a slab design, like the originals. Everything on the neck is original, but Chris added a new truss rod nut for ease of adjustment. The finish is a custom colour, forest green. Not turquoise like it may seem in a couple of photos, and the condition is amazing, albeit for the light buckle/clothing rash on the rear. John East MMSR 2-band active preamp. Nordstrand MM4.2 dual-coil pickup, which faithfully reproduces the classic early Stingray tone. Hipshot bridge - also often used on Nordy bass guitars. 1977 neck plate and battery cover on rear. Pre-EB pickguard. Its weight is 4kg, which is relatively light for a Stingray, and it balances well. http:// http:// http:// More images in the photobucket album: http://s1342.photobu...y?sort=3&page=1 No trades thanks. £80.00 (including UK delivery) Up for sale is my Tech 21 Bass Boost Fuzz. It's been kept safe and clean in a pedalboard since I bought it new and other than the velcro stuck to the base, it's pretty much in the same condition when first bought. This pedal has two main functions - FUZZ and a CLEAN BOOST (up to 21dB). The two can be used independently or combined. I personally never needed to use both simultaneously, but the clean boost came in very handy when balancing the levels of my passive Fender P-Bass 5 to my active Sadowsky UV70 5. There's no apparent loss of low end definition when the fuzz effect is engaged, and the 'clean' control allows the player to dial in a balance between the clean and affected signals. A great versatile pedal, and a more creamy distortion than you'll find on overdrive pedals. http:// Images here in Photobucket link: http://s1342.photobu...z?sort=3&page=1 Demo: https://www.youtube....h?v=--NQLYGuAaY

These Reed James Neo pickups were spares for my Sadowsky UV70 5 string. Not known so well in the UK, but James Reed is getting some incredible attention for his pickup innovations in the US. New to buy $250. Price £60. Used but in great condition. 94 x 18mm 40mm from centre to centre of each mounting screw Photos here: http://s1342.photobucket.com/user/lawriemacmillan/library/Reed James Neo Pickups?sort=3&page=1 Link to the official website for clips and info: http://reedjamescustom.com/id46.html

Swedish-made, early to mid-1960s model. Weight: 3.5kg/7.7ibs 30.5" scale ('shortscale') length 21 fret neck with rosewood fingerboard. Lightweight hollow body. 35mm nut. Beautiful blue colour. Blue leatherette rear. All original and in great condition but tone knob cap missing. Deluxe model due to the 'cheese grater' grill between the pickups. 'Expander' sticker on the rear of headstock refers to the truss rod! Strung with LaBella flatwounds This is a fun and inspiring instrument. It's easy to dial and switch from authentic McCartney-esque mellow tones to retro soundtrack clicky pick sounds. Here's some pictures: http://s1342.photobu...1?sort=3&page=1 UK posted included in the price. It comes with a very old case simply to keep the dust off it, but I'll pack and box it securely.

I bought this new from the California-based company Bass Mods five years ago and it's mostly been a studio instrument for me, although I have used it on some big shows. 6 string Jazz-type bass. 35" (extra long) scale length. Ash body. 22 fret Maple neck with satin finish. Maple fingerboard with white blocks and binding. Comfortable 'Flattened D' neck profile. Custom features I've added to enhance the playability and functionality of the bass: - Sadowsky-style black aluminium tone knobs replaced the stainless steel knobs. - Hipshot Ultralite tuning heads. - Acrylic pickguard replaced the original black guard. - Ash Headstock face with matching flush truss rod cover replaced the original black glossy acrylic facing. - Ash battery compartment cover. - Dunlop Straplocks Standard features: - Weight: 6kg/13lbs - 3-Band active 18v EQ (Vol/Blend/Mid cut & boost/stacked bass & treble cut & boost) - 18mm string spacing at bridge. - 55mm nut. - Kent Armstrong humcancelling soapbar pickups. - Individual bridge units. Original black pickguard included. Black padded MonoStrap also included. Tonally, the higher range of this bass shares more characteristics with a high-end Warwick, yet it retains a classic appearance and sound, particularly in the lower range. The B string really is incredible. The best B string I've used in the studio. The higher range of notes are smooth not brittle, and the volume is even all over the fingerboard. Wide string spacing makes for little adjustment when transferring slap techniques over from four string. Mid-range punch is impressively prominent, and well-suited to fingerstyle funk. Condition is very good. No obvious bumps or dents, only some blemishes and lights scratches, mostly on the rear surface. The position of the bridge units have been adjusted to improve intonation, which means strings-through-body is no longer an option. Here's a link. Sorry, I know this isn't a P Bass, but check it out if you like Moollon's sonic blue finish: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153060853871353&set=a.10150344501571353.337918.715026352&type=3&theater

I ordered my Moollon J-Classic 5 string (sonic blue, alder body) around September and received it early December. There was a slight delay as they only had ash sonic blue bodies in stock, plus the I wanted a neck with their old 47mm nut width, which has recently changed to 45mm. Ordering 'blind' always has its risks, but I wasn't disappointed. What an inspiring instrument!! The import duties set me back around £110, which I was happy to pay given that Moollon included a nice gig bag and shipping. Photo in my 'For Bass Players - The Gear Album' on Facebook, which is set to public.

Euan Mushet - Scottish bass player of Indie/Electronica band Echo Arcadia has started a regular podcast featuring informal bass-related conversation with a different featured bass player each episode. I happen to be the bass player in Episode 1. It's not strictly an interview format, but Euan asks me about my career experience and my philosophies on accompanying an eclectic range of artists. I also discuss my work ethic, a little about equipment and general anecdotes on my feelings of being a full-time musician. I tried to keep my (occasionally long!) responses relevant to bass players, but other musicians may benefit from or simply enjoy some of things we chatted about. This was a refreshing experience for me, and I enjoyed recalling what got me into music and playing bass, what I feel has helped me develop through the years and what maintains my enthusiasm. And in return I learned a bit more about Euan, who's an exciting and creative player with an infectious positive energy.
