3. FWIW, my mate (jamiedunce on here, if he's still around) owns a Schecter Custom 4, and I thought it played beautifully. The natural finish was beautiful too - stunning bass for the money I thought! I do feel that the Schecter 4s are much better than the Schecter 5s though.
4. Just thought I'd add that the Roland DB500 is a very nice, very versatile and very loud amp for its size. Comes highly recommended from me
5. I also had a multi FX, and have sold to buy singles, and I find myself buying things I never entertained using on the multi FX unit, so it isn't foolproof. But if you don't know what you're after, a multi FX is a very good bet.
6. Thanks - that answers my question about holes for the handles
7. Right, I don't have access to my pedals at the moment, they're in our practice room. However, this is a picture from one of our gigs of our guitarist's board. Hopefully it should be enough! Made me realise the pedal doesn't look as big as I thought! But yeh, you'll get an idea of the size of the buttons. You can see his Wasabi delay between his FM4 and DD3.
8. Reliable, sure - it's all metal construction in the cashing and the buttons. The buttons could possibly do with being a little bigger, I'll admit, but unless you have real co-ordination problems, you'll be fine - you can hit those little round metal switches on other pedals, right? ;P The pedal is bigger than it looks though, it has a funny footprint. I'll try and sort a picture with it next to a Boss one for comparison.
9. Besides construction? As if a poorly constructed instrument and a well constructed instrument don't feel totally different? I also think that this thread is basically saying 'unless you only spent £300 on a bass, you're dumb', or words to that effect. I wouldn't agree with what some people have bought, or for the prices they've paid. People would probably think the same of me. But I would never tell someone what they should or should not be spending their own money on. Unless they asked I think something people forget is that something is worth exactly what someone will pay for it, nothing more and nothing less.
10. Just thought I'd bump this up. The Wasabi delay inparticular is quite nice - there's not many pedals around with the tap tempo feature that this one has to my knowledge.
11. A word of wanring though, perhaps/ My guitarist has a Galveston 7, and compared to my 7, the neck is MASSIVE. I can only imagine that to be larger on an 8. But if you're prepared to cope with that, go ahead Cheap ERB!
12. I'd like to add my two cents and say I think the SR5 pickguard looks WAY better than the SR4 one ¬_¬
13. Okay, so I did get some pictures off Jon in the end Not the clearest, but they show the state of play Here we can see the neck in its current state, all glued up but not shaped. Can't really see too much detail in it from the photograph The other photo is the body and neck put next to each other, just to see how it may look. Again, can't see too much of the figuring on any of the woods or anything, but you get an idea.
14.
i've played bass a few years now and have a yamaha trb6 and p-bass that i've done up with a BA2 and redone the electronics etc etc. i play into a Warwick Protube XI sounds awesome recently added a old boss rack compressor to this really tightened things up i plug this into a marshall 2X10 with eminence speakers, and soon a 1X15 as soon as i sort a speaker for this sunn o))) enclosure i just got ;o. i have a bit of a pedal obsession atm and am slowly getting far to many. check my band ;o www.myspace.com/naisian
Yo Michael D: This is a good forum for bass stuff. Excellent actually. Stick around
15. Went down the other day, but couldn't get hold of a camera for the trip Jon said he'd take some pics on Sunday and send them on, but I think any of us who've dealt with Jon know that that is far from a promise! Anyway, the body sides are all waiting to be laminated together, but the neck is currently clamped up, and its looking damn tasty He's put some purpleheart strips into the neck as well as the black veneer. It's proper subtle, but it looks mint ^_^ Estimated time - end of January/first week of February. That's only like 6 weeks... But it seems like bloody forever!
16. I'll second OBBM. Very good service, and gave exactly what I wanted at a very reasonable price
17. Okay, so I bought these brand new the other week, they're in mint condition. Will supply both with original box and whatever manuals and paper gubbins came with them. The pictures come straight off the internet, but the things are in mint condition. Been on my board for a couple of weeks, used at three band practices where they didn't see much use! The first item is an MXR SuperComp compressor. Neat little pedal, very compact as you'd expect from MXR, built like a tank so I can't see it breaking - glow in the dark ^_^ Hah.. Has a Sensitivity control, an Attack Level control, and an Output level control. Has those little ruber things with it that go over the knobs, if you like that kind of thing. Pretty much self-explanatory really. No problems with it, I just found that compression isn't for me. I'm happy with my raw manly sound! There is velcro attached to the bottom of this to fix to a pedalboard, but this is easily removed should you not want it. SOLD The second item is a Danelectro Wasabi Forward/Reverse Delay. Bit unconventional, but I bought this due to having tried one that a friend had and loved it. Really natural delay sound. It has an on/off button with a separate tap tempo button, and all the usual things you'd expect such as mix, repeats etc. All wrapped up in a metal casing, with really obvious on/off/tempo lights. It is pretty heavy. There's also a reverse button to put all the delays backwards. Anyway, it's actually pretty good, but I'm going to let it go because the velcro doesn't stick to the bottom of it very well, and it doesn't fit in with my new plans for delay pedals I could maim the bottom of the pedal to make it stick, but I'd rather let someone use it nicely! Stupid sounding reason, eh! £50 shipped Also added to the pile is a not-brand-new OD-20 distortion modeller twin pedal. This has lots of battle scars in the form of paintwork scratches, but still performs exactly as it should. Velcro on the bottom. Not amazing on bass, but I reckon it could do some good sounds with a blender. Goes from very very high gain metal sounds to fat synthy distortion (though most inbetween sounds a bit iffy). I'll get pictures if asked, though it is on my board at the moment in our practice room. Lots of features/models/sound variety. Selling as I got a Hyperpak which has the sound I'm after in it. £65 posted. I'll accept personal pickup with cash (I'm in Sheffield), cheque or paypal. Please note that buyers using paypal will be asked to add on a few quid to cover the fees though I'm also looking for trades - mostly after a Boss DD3 or DD5. Also looking for interesting distortions (looking for a very grindy kind of tone that lets a lot of bass through. None of this fuzzy stuff) as well as possibly a blend loop doodad. Or anything else you can think of! Cheers, Chris
18. Well technically, a sweep can be as little as playing two notes - a sweep only has to cover more than one string. And often more than one note is hit per string, using hammer ons.
19. There's a video of Jean Baudin doing a very short sweep (the video is 3 seconds long) on a short scale 4 somewhere... www.jeanbaudin.com/sweep.mov I think.
20. My cab is a Marshall VBC412, which Roqsolid make a cover for, but I can't tell from their site whether it has holes in the sides so I can still reach the handles or not. Can anyone shed any light on this?
21. Been off the internet for a while, so no updates. Anyway, latest email from Jon says that he has the fretboard cut and slotted, the neck laminated up for shaping, and the body wings in the same state. I know he's been running a course the last week, so that's basically one week he won't have made any progress in ¬_¬ But yeah, I don't think I'll have it for Christmas, but it doesn't sound like there's actually that much to do to it to be honest. I'm going to try and nip down this week sometime, possibly Thursday or Friday. If I can get hold of a camera, I'll also take that down, as I've given up hope on Jon ever taking any photos

23. D'oh, I can't justify taking a punt on one of these things without trying it first, and I'm way too far away to try it ¬_¬
